Scarlet Witch is one of the powerful superheroes, her innate hexes can warp reality around her.
Scarlet Witch is an accomplished magician who fits at home with sorcery in the Marvel Universe. Just like her hex bolts can cause anything to break, her magic has a habit of being awry.
In Empyre: X-Men #4, the Wandavision star had done something horrible to the mutant kind. Stephen Strange fixed that with the resignation of a plumber.
Scarlet Witch wasn’t constantly a mage. Initially, Wanda Maximoff was a mutant whose strength created bad luck for her that could be blasted at a target. Then she enrolled with the Avengers. There the historical witch Agatha Harkness disclosed that she was utilizing profound magic and equipped her to understand it.
The trouble started: she wedded the Vision and chanced to conjure twin children for them. But the term broke and the grief drove her to a subjective breakdown. Her strengths went haywire and strived to kill the Avengers. The angry, hysterical Wanda cast a spell that depowered 98 percent of the world’s mutants.
Hydra Takes Possession over Wanda’s Body
Her magic arrived from the senior god Chthon, who fascinated her in the womb as a sorcerous container he could retain. In the Secret Empire plotline, when HYDRA took over the US and the Avengers, HYDRA images resulted in Chthon to take possession of Wanda’s body. Thor battled her until she fell. Doctor Strange exorcised her, enabling her to join the opposition forces.
The storyline of Empyre: X-Men is resulted in by a blunder that might be even more gruesome. She endeavors to renew the sixteen million mutants who had been murdered at Genosha. And accidentally turns them into hungry zombies.
There is more revelation in issue 4. She took a second visit to the sanctum sanctorum of Doctor Strange.
He had retraced her steps. Then he discharged the spell, allowing it to fall apart in the time of a month.
If this is the pattern of Wanda that is going off the rails and needing one of her peers to rein her, then it is a fair reading.
Scarlet Witch is Marvel’s ancientest characters, heralding from the Silver Age days.
The Wasp and the Invisible Woman (that is “Invisible Girl”) have aged out of that description. But Scarlet Witch is known for her failures.
