Streaming service Disney Plus has built a new category for a specific type of Marvel Film. Films in this specific type of Marvel Legacy Category might not appear to have much connection with each other at first, but things unite them all together: None belong to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Filmmakers who have preferred to develop adaptations of Marvel comics have long been prohibited in their preference of characters by which studios had the freedom to each creative equity. The availability of movies on streaming services has been likewise restricted. However, after the Fox/Disney merger, Disney+ now has a way to both the MCU and Marvel movies which were made outside of the platform.
Currently, there are only 7 movies filed under Marvel Legacy. 5 are part of the X-Men series, and the others are the 2005 Fantastic Four and the Fantastic Four reboot of 2015. Several other films can enroll them as Disney+ continues to create its library, deeming that any Marvel film outside of the MCU’s distinguished collection appears to be eligible.
Marvel Legacy Category For Rebranding
The phrase “Marvel Legacy” is applicable for content that appears from the long-running comics publisher, primarily since numerous Marvel films were developed before the MCU came into existence. It’s possible that the rebranding will come into widespread usage or that Disney will start to utilize it outside of the context of its streaming service.
For now, Disney+ subscribers who would like a Marvel Legacy that is not based on the MCU know just where to go.
