If there was a list for the most cancelled original shows by an OTT platform, Netflix evidently would be on top. Yes, you read that right! The king of all over the top platform, Netflix cancelled the popular zombie comedy series “Santa Clarita Diet” after three seasons, despite the fact the show ended on a cliffhanger. Recently, the maker of the show Victor Fresco revealed he wants to make season 4 of “Santa Clarita Diet”. However, Netflix hasn’t made any official announcement regarding the show revival. So can we expect the revival on any other streaming platform?
Why Netflix cancelled Santa Clarita Diet?
Netflix is known for making bold moves like cancelling the popular shows without taking a second thought, even if those decisions offend its own subscribers. And that’s exactly what happened with Netflix’s zombie comedy Santa Clarita Diet.
Back in March at an INTV conference, Netflix’s head of original content, Cindy Holland discussed why some series are cut short. Cindy said “It’s a combination of things. When we’re investing, we decide how much to invest based on the audience that will show up. If the audience doesn’t show up, we think about the reason to continue to invest in something that doesn’t do as well as we had hoped”
According to Cindy and her colleagues, they felt there was no viable reason to keep pumping money on “Santa Clarita Diet”.
A Hope for Santa Clarita Diet season 4:
Here’s a piece of good news for the fans of Santa Clarita Diet, the show was cancelled a year ago but the creator has been working on the show, still has ideas for another season. (Isn’t it exciting?)
The maker of the show Victor Fresco told LADBible that he would love to give fans a fourth season of the hit show and already has an idea of what it would look like.
“We thought it would be fun to do a season with Joel and Sheila in the same boat—what that would look like. I feel like this would be better for us an better for our fans too”
Why a Petition, If there’s no audience:
Netflix shockingly cancelled the zombie drama because of the less audience. But after its cancellation, the fans started a petition to save “Santa Clarita Diet”. Although, Netflix didn’t state any official announcement to bring back the show even after a petition going on for almost a year.
Apart from signing the petition, a lot of people reacted to Netflix’s decision. One user wrote “Santa Clarita Diet is a great show with many fans. If Netflix doesn’t want it I hope Amazon Prime Video steals it from them. Bad choice whoever decided to cancel the show?”
Another user wrote “Netflix is taking all good shows away for no god damn reason…..1st all the marvel shows, 2nd show you took away was 7 seconds which had amazing feedback and 3rd Santa Clarita Diet”
After its cancellation, fans are still hoping to see a re-birth of the show on any other streaming platform, if Netflix is not listening.
