Lauren Hissrich, the showrunner of The Witcher promises that in the future the show will explore Geralt’s disability. The adaptation of novels by Andrzej Sapkowski and their video game, the fantasy series made its debut on Netflix last year. The series lead Henry Cavill a monster hunter Geralt of trivia as he travels the continent and gets face to face with his destiny. The series also spots some light on sorceress Yennefer of Vengerberg (Anya Chalotra) and Princess Ciri (Freya Allen) as their lives gradually intertwine.
The excitement and anticipation for the series crossed all the levels and led to the announcement of the second installment even before the premiere of the first series.
The production of The Witcher S2 kicked off earlier this year but was paused because of the coronavirus pandemic, now the filming has been postponed because of some COVID cases on the set, this means fans have to wait a little longer to see the next level of Geralt’s story.
The first season saw its end with Geralt shaking hand with Ciri which was a clear indication that they both will head to witcher training castle Kaer Morhen. Aside from that, fans are excited to learn what’s next for their favorite taciturn monster hunter.
What is Geralt’s Disability?
Recently, Hissrich opened about the storyline of the upcoming season. Fan mustangsart penned a thoughtful thread about Geralt’s disability in the Witcher novels, which was left out of the video games. Following a horrible accident that saw his elbow and thigh bone being shattered, even after getting his wounds healed he still suffers some chronicity pain.
The thread explains why Geralt’s disability is so important and why the series should not ignore it. It didn’t take long to get Hissrich’s attention, she admitted they never considered this disability “I’m excited to dig into this more. To add this layer to our hero,” Hissirch wrote.
This new step can be a big plus point for season 2 as the first season received some critics for how it handled Yennefer’s disability. Working properly on Geralt’s disability series can deliver a great message for disabled people. Whether this new facet of Geralt’s character will be explored in The Witcher season 2 remains to be seen. However, since work on the season is already underway, there’s a chance it won’t be touched upon until later. Nevertheless, fans can rest assured that this important piece of Geralt won’t be ignored by the television series, and it’ll be interesting to see how Hissrich and the others handle it.
Provided The Witcher manages to get back on track after its latest setback, fans can expect to see season 2 by the end of next year at the earliest. The wait might stretch on, but hopefully, it won’t be extended any further.
