Lauren Ridloff, Eternals star has said that she is excited to play Makkari, the first deaf superhero of the MCU.
Lauren Ridloff is deaf herself. According to the report by MovieWeb, she said what excites her is representing the deaf community as a whole in the highly anticipated Marvel Studios blockbuster.
She said, “I am more thrilled than overwhelmed about being allowed to represent the deaf community. I’m very thrilled about that – just to bring in that storyline within the MCU. I think there’s plenty of room for more stories like that.”
Makkari Is Having A Super Power: Super Speed
In earlier issues of Marvel Comics, Makkari’s superpower was super-speed. The character was the major one in the story and is seen as a hearing, white man. However, the MCU portrayal of the character is seen as a deaf woman.
The film is directed by Chloé Zhao with the screenplay by Matthew and Ryan Firpo. Eternals features Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Lauren Ridloff as Makkari, Brian Tyree Henry as Phastos, Salma Hayek as Ajak, Lia McHugh as Sprite, Don Lee as Gilgamesh, Angelina Jolie as Thena, Barry Keoghan as Druig, Gemma Chan as Sersi, and Kit Harington as Dane Whitman, aka the Black Knight. The movie will premiere in theaters on Nov. 5, 2021.
