How Breaking Bad Missed The MCU Cameo?

Breaking Bad almost had an epic MCU crossover if Samuel L. Jackson got what he wished for.

Breaking Bad could have had a crossover with the Marvel Cinematic Universe if Samuel L. Jackson got what he wanted. The actor who played the role of Nick Furry in every Marvel project is set to play the lead role in an upcoming Disney+ show that will follow the life of S.H.E.I.L.D. director. Breaking Bad and Marvel has not had any common road. Breaking Bad, of course, was in no way connected to Marvel Comics, following an ordinary high school teacher, Walter White (Bryan Cranston), who turned into a drug kingpin after a grim health diagnosis. Despite a huge genre difference, Jackson was willing to have a crossover.

Vince Gilligan’s neo-western crime drama made its debut in January 2008 on AMC and later become the topper of the must-watch series list. Four months later after Breaking Bad’s debut 1st phase of Marvel Cinematic Universe was launched with Iron Man starring Robert Downey Jr.

While Breaking Bad saw its end in 2013 after delivering 5 heart-taking seasons, Marvel was in its 2nd phase.  While show’s prequel, Better Call Saul is still going strong, the MCU is gearing up to begin Phase 4, which includes a mix of big-budget feature films and TV shows.

What Was Jackson’s Plan For Breaking Bad And MCU’s Crossover?

According to a past interview with Indiewire, Jackson wanted to pop out in a Breaking Bad set in Los Pollos Hermanos, the fast-food chain owned by antagonist Gus Fring. He claimed that he “just wanted to order a three-piece and freak people out,” indicating that he would have just briefly appeared in the background.

Those familiar with the MCU would have instantly recognized the super spy, especially since he would have looked out of place in a New Mexico fried chicken restaurant. It certainly would have been a treat for fans of both Breaking Bad and the MCU, but unfortunately, it never came to be.

Jackson claimed that MCU’s producers declined Nick Furry’s cameo. It possible that MCU will never allow any of his character to show up in any other franchise. On the other hand, an MCU cameo in the drama series may have been too much of a distraction. That said, it still would have been thrilling for Jackson to briefly appear as himself.
