Suicide Squad 2: How Harley Quinn Has Changed

Harley Quinn has gone a gone way since she first joined the DCEU, and has become somewhat a hero to the fans. Find out how Harley Quinn has changed in Suicide Squad 2.

DCEU’s very own sweet and psycho character Harley Quinn is retuning for James Gunn’s “The Suicide Squad” to steal the hearts of everyone with her charm. Margot Robbie has indeed nailed the character every single time she has played it. Margot Robbie’s splendid portrayal of the character received a lot of love around the world and Harley quickly became a fan favorite. And while her acting is amazing, her character development in the DCEU is also noticeable.

Throughout the comics, Harley Quinn has been portrayed as Joker’s love affair and his sidekick. Her love for the joker was so great that she accompanied her in all of his nefarious plots to take cause disturbance in Gotham. However, the Harley Quinn that we witness in the DC Cinematic Universe is easily one of the best versions of herself, unlike her depictions in the comics.

Harley Quinn’s Journey In The DCEU

Harley Quinn made her debut in the DCEU in the Suicide Squad 2016. Initially, she was exactly like in the comics, crazy, dangerous, beautiful, and Joker’s partner’s in crime. Her actions and her motivations revolved entirely around the Joker, but the movie expressed that the character was not totally cold-blooded and cares deep within her heart.

At the end of Suicide Squad, she finally reunited with The Joker and the hopes with her role increased greatly. It inspired different Spinoff ideas like the “Birds Of Prey” and the fans were very excited to see her story continue in the new movie. Birds of Prey came as a turning point in the life of Harley Quinn, where she felt broken to the core after she got dumped by the Clown Prince of Crime.

She begins by still using the Joker’s name to maintain her supremacy among her piers, later when she got fed up in living under the shadow of the Joker she reveals to everyone that she is now alone but still dangerous as ever. The movie also challenged her morality when she is faced with a difficult situation where she has to sell out a kid Cassandra Cain in order to save her own skin from Black Mask. Naturally, her Villainous instinct kicks and she takes the deal but later comes to her sense and saves the child taking down Black Mask along with her new team.

The ending concluded that even though she’s not entirely bad, she still crazy as ever. Throughout her journey, she repeatedly proved that she is capable of change and can do a lot of good in her own twisted way. The new and evolved Harley Quinn that will return in The Suicide Squad is stronger, determined, and not entirely heartless.

Thanks to solid stories that she went through in Suicide Squad and Birds of Prey, it’d be most exciting to see how the new Harley Quinn is when she returns in The Suicide Squad 2.
