Young Sheldon Despite being the prequel of the original series, the lead character has shown some differences from the one in the original series.
Dr. Sheldon Cooper has been a greatly entertaining character, bringing with himself a huge pack of scientific humor. These were a few reasons that inspired the spin-off series focusing on his early life after the original show came to an end. It was an emotional moment for fans globally when it was announced that the Big Bang Theory would be coming to an end in2019 because of Jim Parson leaving the show. However, fans were not deprived of Sheldon’s cute weirdness as “Young Sheldon”, the prequel to the series came to the rescue.
The prequel is currently on its fourth season and season 4 follows the first-year college life of the young prodigy and the latest episode sheds light on another major difference between the younger and adult Sheldon on their respective shows. Just like any other kid, Sheldon also finds the first few days of college a little difficult.
Everything seemed to be going sideways since his orientation day when he had to learn that Dr. Sturgis was being transferred to a different workplace. Adding to the list of problems was his philosophy subject which puts our young genius in an existential crisis. Enduring through all that, Sheldon pulls through and starts excelling in the class. Following his interest in science, he decides to become Dr. Linkletter’s Lab assistant and both of the characters start to get close to each other.
The Difference
The episode featuring this big talked difference was the one titled, “A Pager, A Club, And A Cranky Bag of Wrinkles.” The episode revolves around the notion of Sheldon joining a college club after the intervention of his mother, who deemed his connection to Dr. Linkletter a little unhealthy. Keeping his interests and liking in his mind, Sheldon thinks about joining Chess Club, Sci-Fi Club, and ultimately Debate Club, and ends up rejecting them all. His rejection for the debate club is quite astonishing as he loved nothing more than tan debating with others and proving them wrong in The Big Bang Theory.
Even the younger version of him loves to make logical and valid points in any argument and even supports them with factual data. Even though his time in CalTech went by without him being involved in any sort of formal debate, he never escaped a chance to debate about the topics of his liking, Science and Nerd movies to be specific. Ultimately when he wasn’t able to find the worthy club, he starts his own group for silent readers.
