Is Captain Marvel 2 bringing along a conflict between friends who were once very close?
After 2020 ruined the business for the cinema and theatre industry, all the cinematic releases had to be pushed back and delayed. Marvel was not an exception to this notion and they too pushed back the release of several of their projects scheduled for last year. Basically, 2020 was skipped by Marvel Studios and no MCU project was released, breaking a decade-long streak.
Luckily, 2021 brought back the delightful charm that Marvel is famous for and Marvel secured the top spot again with the release of WandaVision and The Falcon & the Winter Soldier and that was just the beginning, Marvel is yet to release the highly anticipated “Loki” series revolving around the story of our beloved antihero God of Mischief, after he escaped with the tesseract during the events of Avengers: Endgame and that’s just for the small screen, for the big screen too.
Marvel is all set to release not one but four greatly hyped movies in 2021 including Black Widow, Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, The Eternals, and Spider-Man: No Way Home. Kevin Feige, the president of Marvel Studios, felt that skipping the last year would have made the fans forget the greatness of the MCU therefore they released a short clip on May 3rd, containing the most amazing moments of the Infinity Saga to remind the fans of the amazing moments we all witnessed together. Along with those, the clip also contained announcements for the projects in phase 4 of the MCU including titles and release dates, one of which was the title reveal of Captain Marvel 2.
Captain Marvel 2: The Marvels
To carry forward the tale of the most powerful female superhero of the MCU, Captain Marvel, the sequel to the 2019’s Captain Marvel is coming. The sequel is now officially titled “The Marvels” and it is set to be released on July 8, 2020. But with its announcement came the indication that another face-off between friends is on its way. As of now, we know that a Ms. Marvel tv-series is under production, meaning that Ms. Marvel will soon join the heroes of the MCU and we also know that one of Carol Danvers’ old acquaintance’s daughter also has newly developed superpowers.
Teyonah Parris’ Monica Rambeau, the daughter of Captain Marvel’s old buddy Maria Rambeau, now has energy generation, absorption, and manipulation powers thanks to the events of WandaVision. Since she has an old connection to the cosmic superhero, she might also be included to be one of the Marvels alongside Captain Marvel and Ms. Marvel. However, a reunion may end up as a clash between the titans.
According to the comics, Monica Rambeau’s superhero is called Spectrum, but later on, she also takes up the Captain Marvel moniker and according to the events of WandaVision, we know that Monica holds a grudge against her aunty Carol as she feels that she totally abandoned her old friend in order to help the Skrulls find sanctuary in the vast space.
The tension aroused between them when Monica learned that Carol returned to Earth to aid the heroes but couldn’t do so a little earlier in order to visit her old friend who was battling cancer. Following the basic implications of both the points, it may very well be speculated that Monica might try to forcefully replace Captain Marvel and take up her name. Though it will be a little heart-breaking, it’s going to be one hell of a fight when two heroes with Energy-based superheroes face off against each other in combat.
