Kelvin Harrison Jr. who initially signed for Euphoria Season 2 had to drop out of his role due to this reason. Scroll down to know the details!
One year ago, it got announced Kevin Harrison Jr. had taken on a role for the Zendaya-starring HBO drama series. Euphoria was renewed by HBO for a second season as early as July 2019, before the first season had even ended.
Euphoria focuses on a 17-year-old Rue(Zendaya), suffering from substance abuse trying to keep herself clean all the while dealing with the troubles of high school. The HBO drama showcases the struggles of teenage life, in an extremely raw manner. It’s a show that has a lot of shocking, spine-chilling moments relating to the trauma and the life of a teen, this teamed up with the strong performances from Zendaya and the rest of the cast, has helped the show garner a strong, large fanbase. Euphoria season 2 was supposed to commence its filming last year but faced a delay because of the raging pandemic. Although Euphoria will soon be headed into production, Harrison is no longer involved with the series.
Why Harrison dropped out of Euphoria Season 2
Recently, in an interview with EW, Harrison revealed that he will not be able to appear in Euphoria Season 2 due to scheduling conflict. There has been no word from Euphoria’s creative team on how they’ll handle Harrison’s departure.
It is unclear as to how important or vital Harrison’s role is, as not much is known about his character. While there aren’t many details about this development, it has been reported that Harrison will be making an appearance in Baz Luhrmann’s next Elvis Presley biopic. Given that this particular film is currently in production, it is possible that it was one of the projects that conflicted with the dates of Euphoria. It can also be possible that Harrison considered the Elvis film or any other project he is working on to be more important and so he decided it will be better to leave Euphoria rather than lose those opportunities.
Harrison’s sudden departure has left the producers with two options, they either have to recast his character or simply remove that character from the plot and create a new character. As Harrison’s character was not introduced in Season 1, chances are this character has nothing to do with the events that transpired in Season 1. Given when Season 2 will begin its filming, HBO might soon announce Harrison’s replacement.
