Did you know MCU refused to hire Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man? Let’s find out the reason here!
Tony Stark or as he is popularly called ‘IRON MAN’ is certainly one of the most famous characters out of all invented by Marvel Comics, which was co–created by Stan Lee. The kind of attachment people have to this particular character is definitely “beyond 3000” and it certainly is one of the most amazing performances (acting-wise) of Robert Downey Jr. His wittiness, sarcastic comments, holier than thou attitude, amazing bots, and love towards science are loved by one and all. But did you know there was a time Marvel Comics and Cinematic pledged to never again work with the man?
Robert Downey Jr. As Iron Man:
Apparently, before the onset of the 1st part of Iron Man (which released in 2008), Marvel refused to cast him point-blank and said that ‘’under no circumstances will he be cast for any price”. This upon persuasion from Director Favreau was changed and he was later gloating about it in an interview in 2014 as to how he convinced them to cast him and rest is history (I mean it certainly is……Marvel is the biggest franchise in this industry).
He also stated that “Everybody knew he was talented and the right fit for the job….The only question was about how serious he was but yeah he was dead serious about the role and the rest is history”. When you now look at it, he’s one of the most successful actors worldwide and also amongst the highest paid for the job.
The possible reasons for the uncertainty among the Marvel Cinematic maybe because ‘of the legal troubles and substance abuse period’ he had after being a popular success in his youth or maybe because ‘of the unserious behavior he had shown in the past’ that they didn’t want to associate their name with him. But in the end maybe they related the story of Iron Man with the real life story of Robert Downey Jr. and that’s why finally offered him the role.
Well for better or worse, their gamble certainly paid them off big time because there’s no doubt in the fact that “I am IRON MAN” is the best line for so many of his fans (including me) and whenever you see him on the screen you are so glued to it. Although their contract completed after the release of Avengers Endgame he’ll always be one of the most celebrated and loved superhero worldwide.
