David Harbour Hints Black Widow Could Introduce Russia’s Avengers

Black Widow star, David Harbour seems to confirm the appearance of Russia’s Avengers in Black Widow in his recent post on Instagram. I am sure it got us all excited!

Marvel’s upcoming movie Black Widow was supposed to come out in May 2020 and since then the film’s being delayed several times, but it looks like finally this July we’ll get to see the movie. On 10 May a lot of character posters for the movie were shared on social media which also included a poster shared by David Harbour of his character Red Guardian, a super-soldier. It was not the poster that got us all thrilled but the caption he made that says:

“Ursa, Yelena, Nat, CD, Sputnik, I and all the rest of the winter guard look forward to sharing a popcorn bag and a big ole screen in a dark theatre with ya on July 9”

Black Widow star, David Harbour, has somehow hinted to us that the film could introduce the Winter Guard. However, with Falcon & Winter Soldier the MCU is somehow revealing more superhuman as part of its world by introducing Isaiah Bradley, as Captain America who served during the Korean War. This might give us a slight idea that Black Window might do the same.

As we know, David Harbour portrays the role of Red Guardian who is confirmed to be a super-soldier. His character was created during the Cold War considered being Russia’s answer to Captain America. It also suggests that the Cold War was a superhero arms race in the MCU. In the war, the Soviet Union and the U.S.A. competed to develop superhuman soldiers. This encourages the fact that Black Widow might further reveal the history of MCU’s Cold War. The venture might also introduce other superhumans who were a part of it.

The Winter Guard from Marvel Comics is a Russian group of extraordinary soldiers, sometimes described as an answer to the Avengers. Harbour’s post seems to be teasing certain members of this team appearing in Black Widow, including Ursa Major (a humanoid bear), Sputnik (a machine-controlling synthezoid), and the Crimson Dynamo (Iron Man, but Russian). Also, in the movie’s first trailer an easter egg for Ursa Major pops up in an unidentified office which is another tease for the character to possibly be a part of the movie. It is not yet official whether Marvel Studios is planning to bring this full team into play for Black Widow or a future project, but this many chaff for them seems difficult to ignore.

However, the mention of Ursa Major is quite interesting. Ursa Major is a mutant with the ability to transform into a giant bear. There’s also speculation that Oliver Richards will be playing that character. We cannot ignore the fact that If Ursa Major does appear in Black Widow, then it will be the first mutant in the MCU.

David also references CD which is exciting as well because that is Crimson Dynamo, known to many as the Russian Iron man. Remember where, in Iron Man 2, Tony Stark insisted it would be years before anybody managed to duplicate Iron Man technology, but Russia might have managed to do so by 2016 – and had created Crimson Dynamo. There was an easter egg in the book the Wakanda files that seems to point to the Russians processing palladium which is the source of Tony’s arc reactor so there’s no reason to believe that this version of the armored isn’t in the MCU at this point.

Well, David has added fuel to the fire with his Instagram and his comment is surely smart marketing, to make viewers very curious indeed about how Black Widow could affect the MCU going forward. Since it’s being 11 years since Natasha Romanoff aka Black Widow appeared in Iron man 2, Marvel decided this prequel given Scarlett Johansson’s Natasha Romanoff sacrificed herself in Avengers: EndgameBut if the film introduces the Winter Guard, then it adds some thrill to the MCU, and perhaps even introduces the MCU’s first mutant to boot. Hence, Black Widow can be important for the MCU.
