Do you think you are ready for Jujutsu Kaisen season 2? Grab a box of tissue paper because this will make you cry in the end.
(WARNING! This may contain spoilers from Jujutsu Kaisen manga)
Jujutsu Kaisen was one of the greatest anime that made winter 2021 memorable. With superior animation quality from MAPPA studios and iconic characters, Jujutsu Kaisen became insanely popular, receiving many awards and gathering a gigantic fanbase. As a result of its growing popularity, a prequel movie was announced just before the series finale aired. Although there hasn’t been any official announcement about the second season of Jujutsu Kaisen but considering its massive success, thinking that it would return with a second season will be downright stupid.
So far in the story, we have witnessed a fair share of action, humor, and darkness during the first season, however, if you think you can handle the darkness of the show, you have no idea of the horrors that await you in the painful future. Jujutsu Kaisen season 1 adapted all the event from the manga starting from the “Introduction arc” till the “Death Painting arc” and since “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” movie will be a prequel to the first season, season 2 is expected to adopt the manga from “Gojo’s Past arc” to the “Shibuya arc”. The Shibuya arc will definitely make you cry when it gets animated and aired.
The Shibuya Incident
The Shibuya arc is the eighth arc in Jujutsu Kaisen manga and is probably the darkest story arc in Jujutsu Kaisen’s history, featuring a lot of destruction including the deaths of many of the main characters. During season 1, we saw Geto and the curses talk about October 31 and Satoru Gojo’s sealing. They also talked about bringing back the “Golden Age of Cursed Techniques” and that is all that the Shibuya Incident is all about. The brains behind the attack was a literal brain called “Brain-Kun” that takes over bodies of others and has been doing so for 1000 years. He currently controls the body of Geto Suguru (Gojo’s old best firend) and uses it to do his dirty work.
The alliance of cursed spirits attack Jujutsu High and successfully seal Gojo, the most powerful Jujutsu sorcerer, thereby giving a major blow to the strength of the sorcerer forces. Afterward, Yuji Itadori is forced to consume more of Sukuna’s finger which ultimately unleashes Sukuna’s spirit allowing it to take over Yuji’s body. Once in control of Yuji’s body, Sukuna starts to rampage over everything hurting and killing people in the process.
Eventually, Itadori snaps out of it and is pretty disturbed by the havoc that was caused because of him. Meanwhile, Nanami, Kugisaki, and Yuji face off against Mahito who attacks them mercilessly. Although the fight started with the sorcerers having the upper hand, it ends with the cursed spirit winning the fight, killing off Yuji’s mentor Nanami and his friend Nobara.
Seeing two of his closest friends die, Itadori is rendered unable to fight and is beaten to a pulp by Mahito who blames their deaths on Yuji. While all of this was taking place, Fushigoro fights his father, both of them being unaware of their blood relation. Their fight ends with Toji asking Fushigoro his name and slitting his own throat after realizing that he had been fighting his own son. The attack was successful and the cursed spirits won. During the aftermath of the incident, Yuta Okkutsu returns and takes up the responsibility of executing Yuji Itadori.
And there you have it, the darkest most depressing story arc of Jujutsu Kaisen, the Shibuya arc. The world is in chaos, our heroes are either dead, trapped, or in shock. Nanami and Kugisaki are dead and Yuji will soon be dead. Gojo has sealed away and hasn’t returned. This is what we are going to witness in the upcoming Jujutsu Kaisen season 2 that is expected to come out in 2023. Bet you’re sobbing after reading the dark future of your favorite anime series.
