Black Panther’s Okoye star Danai Gurira will reportedly be reprising her role in Marvel’s Black Panther Disney+ series.
The Wakandans have become an important part of the MCU in recent times and their roles will only become more significant in the future. After being teased in Avengers: Age Of Ultron, the Wakandans made their debut in the MCU in Captain America: Civil War. Wakandans and the Black Panther played a big part in shaping the story of the movie and the fans totally loved them. Following his growing popularity, the Black Panther got his own solo movie of the same name in 2018 which became a smashing blockbuster hit, making over $1 billion at the worldwide box office.
The Wakandans even played a major role in the fight against Thanos’ army in Avengers: Infinity War, which took place for Vision’s mind stone. But now everything is changed now that their leader, their king is gone. On 28 August 2020, the world stood still when the news of Chadwick Boseman’s passing arrived. It was very shocking news for all considering the actor seemed fine but apparently all this time he was fighting against cancer and still was the liveliest person you could find.
Chadwick Boseman’s legendary portrayal of MCU’ Black Panther will go down in history forever as one of the greatest superhero performances of all time. But now that he’s gone it’s a big question that “Who will carry on his legacy”. There are reportedly two Black Panther projects in works- the Black Panther sequel “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” and a Disney+ series. Marvel’s initiative of not re-casting Chadwick’s character was an honourable decision but it also leaves doubts about filling the void that Chadwick’s absence left.
Danai Gurira In Black Panther Disney+ Series
Ryan Coogler, the writer and co-writer of Black Panther, will be handling the Black Panther sequel and the Disney+ series following a five-year deal that his production company signed with Disney. According to the terms of their agreement, Ryan was given the responsibility to build the Wakandan empire during these five years. There’s not much that we know about the Black Panther Diney+ spinoff series, but we might have just discovered its first cast member who is none other than Danai Gurira or as MCU fans know her, ‘Okoye’, the leader of Dora Milaje.
According to a profiled list of Hollywood’s top lawyers, one spot was secured by Jamie Mandelbaum following his work of brokering a deal for Danai Gurira to reprise her role as Okoye in the Black Panther Disney+ spinoff series which would be a third Wakanda centered project after the release of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Although her casting news is yet to be officially announced by Marvel, the leader of the King’s Royal Guard, the Dora Milaje, is an obvious choice for the cast members. Although we lost the King, the story of his trusted subjects would still be amazing to see.
