Scarlett Johansson says Avengers: Endgame failed to deliver the closure of Black Widow’s character.
Among the many Marvel superheroes that died in the Avengers: Endgame, the death of Black Widow totally surprised fans. So for the fans to have some semblance about her, it was important she came back. Marvel Cinematic Universe, therefore, decided to release a spinoff movie on Black Widow aka Natasha Romanoff. The film is set to release on the OTT platform Disney + Hotstar on 9th July 2021. The character finally got a solo movie, showcasing how her life got affected when she joined The Avengers.
The movie is set between ‘Captain America: Civil War and ‘Avengers: Infinity War’. The movie basically shows Natasha’s past while she deals with a present threat named ‘Taskmaster’, a villain who specializes in copying the styles and tricks of his opponents. The end of Natasha in Avengers: Endgame was when she sacrificed herself for her team when she and Hawkeye went to Vormir to bring the ‘Soul Stone’. But unlike Iron Man, who died and stole the show, Widow’s death was forgotten about and she didn’t get a funeral she so well deserved.
Black Widow’s Disclosure
In a recent interview, Scarlett discussed the movie’s goal for her character. She explained that it’s not just about Widow’s past and how she went on to become what she became and joined Avengers (and S.H.I.E.L.D) but is also about giving the character closure and some semblance for fans. With a new Black Widow coming into the picture, Scarlett and Cate Shortland wanted to give the audience what the Russo brothers failed at. It just didn’t feel right to not give Black Widow a proper ending especially since she made a lot of effort in keeping her team together and has been present in the MCU since Iron Man 2.
Now, the fans can give her a proper send-off knowing what more she had to go through. Scarlett has been part of the majority of Phase 1 movies of MCU, providing a linkage between superheroes and S.H.I.E.L.D. A lot of new characters will make their debut post-Black Widow’s release however they won’t always be able to make us not miss the charisma of Black Widow.
