Lucifer season 5 came back with a bang and fans totally loved it. The one episode that’s specifically highlighting is ‘Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam’. The episode is a musical delight by the makers and uses so many songs as a form of communication among various people at various times. But, the makers didn’t get all the songs they wanted.
Joe Henderson and Ildy Modrovich revealed the one song they wanted but couldn’t get approval for. It’s ‘Father and Son’ by the legendary British singer ‘Cat Stevens’. The series stars ‘Tom Ellis’ (aka Lucifer Morningstar) who’s the ruler of Hell and gets bored being in the same loop, so comes to Earth (Los Angeles) and starts killing his boredom by helping LAPD detective, Chloe Decker (Lauren German). The show airs on Netflix and is absolutely a fan favorite. Some episodes for season 5 recently released and surprised fans as much as the other seasons.
The 10th episode in the series “Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam” was showcased as a musical where characters were singing and dancing revealing their problems. The episode is full of various kinds of songs from all sorts of genres and decades. Makers however revealed that they had chosen a different song for the father son duo but couldn’t quite get their hands on it.
The Musical Episode: Bloody Celestial Karaoke Jam
Joe and Modrovich talked to “The Wrap” about the recent release of episodes. Specifically talking about the Musical Episode, they said that they had planned to use ‘Father and Son for the duet between Lucifer and his father, God. However, singer Cat Stevens also known as Yusuf Islam denied them permission. Tom then came to their rescue he and Haysbert can sing the epic ‘Broadway Ballad – I Dreamed A Dream. The resultant performance though made the makers cry and towards the end of it, even Tom and Haysbert were crying.
Stevens allows his music to be used in movies and series. He provided most of the soundtrack for the famous cult ‘Harold and Maude’ in 1971. He also licensed this specific song to be used by the makers of ‘Guardians of the Galaxy 2’ when Peter Quill’s father (Yondu) dies. But perhaps the image of God singing a song named ‘Father and Son’ seemed a bit too much. Fortunately, for the makers though, the show turned out to be a success and there’s no blood bath between them and Stevens.
