Back in the 1st part of Captain America, when Steve Rogers first picked up the shield a new superhero emerged but he learned how to use it properly in Marvel Cinematic Universe.
CAPTAIN AMERICA’S SHIELD, Ever since then the movement and style of throwing that shield has been a staple but Steve could effectively do that because of the ‘Super Soldier Serum’ he has in his body. To overcome his gap of strength, Sam invents his own style and that is very effective too.
In the 1st season of Falcon and The Winter Soldier, 5th episode named ‘Truth’, Sam decided to look after Steve’s legacy but he certainly knows that he is some big shoes to fill and therefore adds a little bit of himself apart from Steve’s character. The episode showcases how hard he trains and all the effort he puts to make himself comfortable, working with the shield and moving around with it. Since he’s an aerial hero, so unlike Steve he is often seen flipping his wings and moving around in the air giving him more strength and making his kicks a lot more effective.
HOW IS SAM’S METHOD DIFFERENT?
CAPTAIN AMERICA’S SHIELD, Every time he is seen working around with the shield and throwing it, a lot more power, momentum, and potential energy is generated. So this will ensure that the shield is thrown with the same power from his hand as it was thrown from Steve’s hand.
This technique is shown in the next episode ‘One World, One People’ where he launches the shield at a helicopter and since flipping can be very effective both ways (while throwing and catching it). Initially, he had a lot of trouble catching the shield because he tried copying Steve’s methods but later realizes that they aren’t going to help and so he reinvents the whole training and that helps him in getting more comfortable working with the shield.
He then goes on to add a little something to it by flipping and twisting while before & while catching the shield to match its energy. He also tries to never lose his kinetic energy while running. Sam is not like Steve and given the changing scenario in the MCU, it is a good thing, else fans would have compared him with Captain America. His fighting styles are unique and so are his ways of using the shield.
