Well, just like everyone ‘REDDIT’ has its say, and here are some reasons why Damon Salvatore was unpopular and find out how true they are.
Salvatore brothers which consisted of “Stefan Salvatore and Damon Salvatore” comprise a huge part of the “Vampire Diary” universe. The 8 season-long show has its fair share of drama, suspense, thrill, adventure, romance, and fights. For a very long part of the series, fans were having the struggle to choose between Stefan Salvatore (the good brother) and Damon Salvatore (the bad brother). But, towards the end of the show, they realized that all of them were on the same side.
The debate of who was the better Salvatore continues and therefore having unpopular opinions for both the brothers is quite obvious and very much understandable. Here are some reasons why Damon is unpopular.
APALLING AS A PERSON
The initial introduction to the character of Damon Salvatore wasn’t a very good one so there’s no denying the fact that people didn’t like him (after all, he was portrayed as the villain, and not many people like gray characters). He was absolutely terrible with innocent people too (take Caroline for example). But his character evolved and towards the end of the show, the initial fans had a change of heart too.
HIS ANNOYING DEVILISH SMIRK
One of the biggest reasons to dislike Damon, apart from his irritating nature was the fact that he never stayed behind in showing it. Despite his devilish character, his good looks definitely earn him the points but that devilish smirk. Though most of the people actually like him for that, Reddit somehow disagrees and feels like it is annoying.
DELENA > STELENA
Nothing caused more rifts in the series than the love story of the famous trio Damon – Elena – Stefan. While Stefan fans wanted her to be with him, Damon fans obviously wanted just the opposite of this. Towards the end of the show, fans however were convinced that the pairing of Damon & Elena outshines that of Stefan & Elena.
DIDN’T DESERVE ELENA
While some fans absolutely loved Damon and Elena and were always in awe of them, others were in constant discontinuity over the fact that they were together. While some thought (including Stefan) that Damon was his best self when he was with Elena – he stopped with his erratic behavior and even cared for humans, others think that his character actually grew during the course of seasons 7 and 8 when he wasn’t with Elena.
STEFAN SHOULD HAVE BEEN THE SURVIVING ONE
A lot of debate has already happened as to which of the 2 brothers should have survived the final fall and continued living. While Stefan fans obviously rooted for him, it actually was Damon who survives the epic end and continues to live with the love of her life – Elena. Many fans however didn’t see eye to eye with this ending and believed that Stefan should have been saved.
HIS ‘BAD’ INFLUENCE ON ELENA
Damon and Elena’s relationship was something that fans prayed for and when they finally got it, it was nothing short of a miracle for them. However, it wasn’t all sunshine and rainbows in their relationship because Elena is on her worst behavior when she’s with him. From the initial days of their relationship, Elena lets Damon get away with a lot of things that she should have stopped, and that was the crux of the problem.
CONTINUING AS A VILLIAN
While some like the change of heart Damon went through, others feel like he should have stayed a villain. He used and abused humans, made his brother’s life a living hell, and always was after something or the other. Even though he mellowed once his relationship started, he made a better villain and so some wanted him to continue on that path.
