This year’s most popular shows, according to IMDb users, are the smash dramas Stranger Things and House of the Dragon.
According to IMDb’s list of the top ten television series of 2022, Netflix’s Stranger Things and HBO’s House of the Dragon have been ranked as the most popular shows of the year. Both series have seen significant success this year, with Stranger Things returning to TV screens after a three-year hiatus and earning widespread critical acclaim, and House of the Dragon setting a record for HBO’s largest all-time audience for an original series premiere.
Stranger Things
Stranger Things season 4, which was released in May, ended with a two-part finale in July. The season was split into multiple plotlines and set in March 1986, eight months after the events of season 3. The latest season of the sci-fi horror drama earned Netflix over 335 billion hours of viewing time in one week between May and June, making it the most popular English language program on the streamer at the time.

Filming for season 5 of Stranger Things is set to begin in 2023, meaning it likely won’t be released until 2024. Series co-creator Matt Duffer has revealed that he and his brother Ross Duffer’s pitch for the final season made executives at Netflix cry, which they “thought was a good sign.”
House of the Dragon
House of the Dragon premiered on HBO in August and, with over 9.9 million viewers, became the best series debut in HBO’s history. The premiere was also the most-watched premium cable or the streaming premiere of 2022, a record since broken by Sylvester Stallone’s Tulsa King. Steve Toussaint, who plays Corys Velaryon on the show, has hinted at more focus on Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen’s fight for the throne in season 2. However, it is expected to be released sometime in 2024.
Both Stranger Things and House of the Dragon can be streamed on their respective platforms, Netflix and HBO Max.
