Oppenheimer by Christopher Nolan Unveils a Tense Official Trailer

In the forthcoming Christopher Nolan biopic Oppenheimer, Cillian Murphy is seen building the historic bomb that changed history in the official trailer.

In the official Oppenheimer trailer, Cillian Murphy creates one of history’s most notorious bombs. The movie, which was created by Christopher Nolan, will follow the life of the titular theoretical physicist and his participation in the Los Alamos Laboratory’s Manhattan Project, which gave rise to the atomic bomb. Along with Emily Blunt, Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr., Florence Pugh, Rami Malek, Benny Safdie, Josh Hartnett, Dane DeHaan, Jack Quaid, Matthew Modine, Kenneth Branagh, David Dastmalchian, Gary Oldman, Casey Affleck, among others, Cillian Murphy is playing the title role in the star-studded cast of Oppenheimer.

The official Oppenheimer trailer was released by Universal Pictures in advance of the new year. The film provides the first comprehensive look at Christopher Nolan‘s upcoming biopic, which centers on the development of the iconic atomic bomb and Cillian Murphy‘s titular physicist as he battles to accept the destructive device he has made. The trailer is provided below.

Everything About Nolan’s Movie The Oppenheimer Trailer Tells Us

While the Oppenheimer trailer may hide a lot of the movie’s actual action, one of the more intriguing lessons is how the story is told. Audiences were intrigued to see Nolan, an Oscar contender, revisit the black-and-white format since he last used it for the 2000 film Memento. Earlier teasers and photos for the movie suggested that Nolan’s biopic would be in that manner. Oppenheimer appears to be a combination of color and black-and-white presentation, similar to the Guy Pearce-starring thriller, however, it is not yet known if the latter method for showing flashbacks is still used.

The enormous amount of real-world effects Nolan is using to investigate the life of the man who created the atomic bomb is another intriguing revelation from the Oppenheimer teaser. Like in his previous films, Nolan tried to use as little CGI as possible when crafting the film’s explosive scenes. In particular, he said that recreating the Trinity nuclear test with only practical effects was one of the hardest challenges of his career. While the Oppenheimer trailer does a good job of keeping the specifics of that nuclear test under wraps, it does give viewers a few peeks of both the historic explosion and the numerous precursors to it in order to keep viewers on the edge of their seats until the movie’s release.

One of the main impressions from the Oppenheimer teaser is the impressive cast, most of whom are still a secret. Although it gives viewers their first glimpses of The Boys’ Jack Quaid as physicist Richard Feynman, Matt Damon as Lieutenant General Leslie Groves, and Josh Peck as physicist Kenneth Bainbridge, it still chooses to keep Kitty Oppenheimer, played by Emily Blunt, businessman Lewis Strauss, played by Robert Downey Jr., and doctor/psychiatrist Jean Tatlock, played by Florence Pugh, hidden. Prior to Oppenheimer’s July 21 premiere, only time will tell when viewers may receive their first looks at the rest of the A-list cast.
