Variety reports that Knock at the Cabin, a thriller from Universal, made $5.4 million on its first Friday in theatres, which includes the movie’s $1.45 million in Thursday previews. These figures indicate that Knock at the Cabin will surpass its first-weekend domestic box office total of $14.5 million. Although it would probably earn more than its $20 million budget, initial predictions saw Knock at the Cabin grossing in the $15 million to $20 million range on its opening weekend. The Way of Water, on the other hand, is anticipated to finish its eighth week in theatres with a weekend gross of $10 million.

Starring Dave Bautista, Rupert Grint, Jonathan Groff, and Ben Aldridge, Knock at the Cabin is based on Paul G. Tremblay’s book The Cabin at the End of the World. The plot centers on a family whose vacation is ruined by four strangers who say they have seen the world’s end. These outsiders claim that the family must murder a member in order to stop the end of the world.

Avatar 2 Loses the Number One Box Office Position

The Way of Water, which may lose the top spot at the box office to Shyamalan’s newest thriller, is currently the fourth-highest-grossing movie in history after crossing $2 billion on Jan. 22. The sequel brought in an additional $15.7 million over its seventh weekend in theatres, bringing its domestic total to $620 million and its global cume to $2.117 billion. With these figures, it became the first movie since the 2009 debut of the first Avatar to hold the top spot at the box office for seven straight weekends.

Cameron’s follow-up reportedly had a budget of between $350 million and $400 million, making it one of the most costly movies ever. The Way of Water’s director hinted that it would require a global gross of over $2 billion to break even. With a worldwide total of $1.708 billion after its fourth weekend in theatres, the movie beat Jurassic World to become the seventh-highest-grossing movie of all time.

Worthington and Saldaña reprise their respective roles as Jake Sulley and Neytiri in the 2013 film The Way of Water, which takes place ten years after the events of 2009’s Avatar. Sigourney Weaver and Stephen Lang, who plays Colonel Quaritch, are further returning cast members. Although the director has said that Avatar 4 and 5 will depend on the success of the first two sequels, including The Way of Water, he has planned three more movies in the Avatar trilogy.
