In the fourth “Captain America,” Anthony Mackie will play Betty Ross opposite Liv Tyler.
Marvel Studios appears to be intentionally keeping 2008’s The Incredible Hulk more relevant than ever in the Marvel Cinematic Universe canon in its most recent entries. A significant character from the first Hulk movie has been confirmed to return in Captain America: New World Order. Liv Tyler, who played Betty Ross in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, is confirmed to make a comeback to the MCU fifteen years after initially portraying the character.
Though it shouldn’t come as a huge surprise, Tyler’s on-screen father General “Thunderbolt” Ross played a significant role in earlier phases of the MCU and made guest appearances in Captain America: Civil War and the most recent two Avengers films. Ross was always planning to make a comeback in Captain America: New World Order, but Harrison Ford plays the part this time. With William Hurt’s passing in 2022, the veteran of Star Wars assumed the position.
When was Liv Tyler last spotted playing Betty Ross?
When the Hulk storyline underwent multiple changes, including the primary character being recast as Mark Ruffalo, the role of Betty Ross, who helped Bruce Banner (then portrayed by Edward Norton) have greater control of the beast within him, ended up being lost in the past. Up until this moment, it appeared doubtful that Tyler would rejoin the narrative because the MCU looked to have abandoned the Hulk’s origins, but now we may look forward to the possibility of her appearance in Phase Five.
Who Else Has The MCU Reintroduced?
In addition to the Ross family, the MCU already made the antagonist from The Incredible Hulk a significant character in the TV series She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Tim Roth’s character, the Abomination, served as Tatiana Maslany’s character’s primary client throughout the episodes, and she worked to have him released from prison after he claimed he had sincere regrets for the devastating acts he had committed in 2008. With Tyler’s reappearance, the MCU’s intended message—that The Incredible Hulk is still very much alive in their memory—is now more audible and apparent than ever.
Anthony Mackie will make his acting debut as the title character in Captain America: New World Order. The Disney+ series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which chronicled his transformation from Falcon to Captain America, will have a major impact on the movie, especially the ending, in which a third Captain America is revealed and revealed to have morals very different from those defended by Steve Rogers (Chris Evans). Julius Onah is directing the recently begun filming, and Dalan Musson and Malcolm Spellman wrote the script. In addition to Tyler, Mackie, and Ford, Sebastian Stan, Tim Blake Nelson, Carl Lumbly, Danny Ramirez, Shira Haas, and Xosha Roquemore appear in Captain America: New World Order. The release of Captain America: New World Order is scheduled for May 3, 2024, just over a year from today.
