For every actor it’s a sense of pride and achievement to even be a part of Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). We have seen the stars like Josh Brolin aka Thanos and Chris Hemsworth aka Thor and many more, accumulating unparalleled fame. But not many know that our very own Robert Downey Jr aka Iron Man had to persuade one of the best and our favorite superheroes to be part of the films.
What did Robert Downey Jr Said to Mark Ruffalo?
Many times, we have read about so many actors who were unhappy or uncertain about their roles. One of them was Jeremy Renner aka Hawkeye. He was always unhappy with how his character was framed in the very first film. Mark Ruffalo also has recently come forward about his feelings of uncertainty about his portrayal as Hulk. For this reason, Robert Downey Jr called him personally to become a part of MCU.
Hulk shared the story when he appeared on The Jimmy Fallon Show. He said “I was scared. I didn’t know what I could add to what I already thought had been done so well before me. And I had only been doing indie movies up to that point so I was like I don’t know if I am the right person for this role”.
Hulk Before Hulk
For those of you who do not know, before Ruffalo, Eric Bana and Edward Norton had played the titular character formerly in the Hulk and Lou Ferrigno (1970) and The Incredible Hulk (2008).
Initially, The Avengers director Joss Whedon approached Mark Ruffalo for the role. After that, the Iron Man called Mark and convinced him to play the role of Hulk as he thought Mark would be the best fit for this role.
Sharing the story, Mark said, “Joss Whedon’s like, yeah, you are the right person. And then I got a call from Downey, it must’ve made it to him that I was hemming and hawing, and he just simply said, ‘Ruffalo, let’s go. We got this.’ In true Iron Man fashion. And then after that, I was like, ‘I guess I have to do it”.
