Suicide Squad, released in 2016 was a sheer disappointment for Warner Bros. David Ayer, the director of Suicide Squad ragging about his director’s cut, professes that the film is as shady as Todd Phillips’ Joker. The Suicide Squad (2016) didn’t do much at the box office. It received a lot of criticism from the fans. Talking about the final version of the film, Ayer has been quite vocal about the version but didn’t reveal much about the planned vision. However, he has spilled some beans and finally confirmed that his version of Suicide Cut is in process and will be completed soon.
Explaining about his version, Ayer has hinted towards the film is much darker than the version already released by Warner Bros. For instance, Ayer disclosed that Monster T (Comma) was killed by Joker (Jared Leto). He killed him by terrifying him to end his own life. Leto was also featured in a helicopter crash scene where he was seen with a burnt face. Joker is unquestionably the horrifying character of Suicide Squad. Ayer also revealed that the film would have been even darker, had Joker’s scene wasn’t deleted.
The Suicide Squad and Joker
Ayer compared his director’s cut of Suicide Squad to 2019’s Joker. Talking about a short scene from the movie Ayer posted on twitter:
“This was reshot because the tone was “too dark” – My first act was a normally constructed film. I took my inspiration from Nolan. There were real scenes with incredible acting between Jared and Margot. Joker was terrifying. Harley was complex.”
He further added: “Imagine if Todd Phillips film The Joker was reshot and recut because it was too dark — This is EXACTLY what happened to Suicide Squad. Anyone who says my cut did not work owes me to say it directly to me.”
Even if Joker is not a part of the DC Extended Universe, the comparison made by Ayer is justified. Joker’s role in the film will most definitely make the film gloomy and awful. However, earlier DC and Warner Bros. weren’t very satisfied with Ayer’s version of the film. But later they accepted it considering fans’ desire. Snyder Cut will most definitely change the game forever.
