The nature of death of Natasha Romanoff is one of the most controversial elements in Avengers: Endgame. She dies in the first place and also she had not got a proper big funeral are the elements, despite her heroic sacrifice like Iron Man. The director and the writer have justified and defended the storyline earlier. And here, we have got another reason that she had not received any funeral. Black Widow herself voted for the idea.
The director of Black Widow, Cate Shortland had opened ho about the forthcoming prequel movie of MCU to Empire. In the interview, Shortland had teased that the film would provide a sort of a closure to the death of Natasha Romanoff. And as for the Endgame had not featured much into the depth of the closure, she said that Scarlet would not think that wake for the heroine would always be keeping her personality or wishes.
This Fits The Ending Though
Shortland said, “in Avengers: Endgame, the fans were upset that Natasha Romanoff did not have a funeral. Whereas Scarlett, when I spoke to her about it, said Natasha wouldn’t have wanted a funeral.” She added, “she’s too private, and anyway, people don’t really know who she is. So what we did in this film was allow the ending to be the grief the individuals felt, rather than a big public outpouring. I think that’s a fitting ending for her.”
That is no doubt a good point while being defensive. It shows the understanding of the character by the star. Also, Natasha is not the one who gets sentimental about death. Though, Tony Stark had enjoyed everyone gathering in the MCU to honour him. She had not wanted to make it a big deal.
As for BW, Shortland’s indication that her movie will cease with the characters moaning sounds pretty ominous and startling. Is she talking about Natasha’s fate? Fans will have to wait and see. Though she has made it clear that Natasha will pass her mantle to her sister in Black Widow.
