Did you know Scott Eastwood actually auditioned for Twilight’s Edward Cullen?
Based on Stephenie Meyer’s novel of the same name, Twilight focuses on a teenage girl moving to a small town in Washington to live with her father, she eventually finds herself falling for the vampire, Edward, who has to protect her from an evil coven of bloodsuckers. The film eventually cast Robert Pattinson, Billy Burke Cam Gigandet, Kristen Stewart, and Taylor Lautner. Although it first lingered at the hands of Paramount Pictures and MTV Films struggling to get developed, it was later passed on to the hands of Summit Entertainment in 2007. The first Twilight movie went on to become a box office hit garnering over $407 million, and the sequels that followed also grossed a total of $3.346 billion.
Scott Eastwood recalls his audition for Twilight
While discussing his role in Guy Ritchie’s latest action thriller, Wrath of Man, with Variety, Eastwood recalled the time he auditioned for Twilight. Apparently, he found the Twilight project to be a “Ya movie” and thus did not try hard enough at all. This resulted in a bombed audition and we can say that Eastwood looks back with a bit of regret.
He says, “Then the movie turns into seven movies and Robert Pattinson has made a quadrillion dollars [laughing]. Then I was thinking, ‘Ya may have wanted to try maybe just a little bit.’”
Bombing an audition for a film and later regretting it has been pretty common in the acting industry, including Michael B. Jordan’s Star Wars efforts. Although the Twilight franchise garnered over 3 billion, the film also got heavily criticized and ridiculed throughout the years. Pattinson and Stewart have also opened up about the struggles they had to face in their personal lives because of the movie, so we think it was probably for the best that Eastwood avoided joining the “YA” franchise.
However, this did not stop Eastwood’s career as he never saw a setback ever since. From starring in the DC Extended Universe with David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and then going on to star in 2017’s The Fate of the Furious, he still keepsgetting his name in some high-profile projects. Eastwood looks to have dodged the silver stake in not landing the role of Edward, as he now has roles set in films alongside A-list actors Tyrese Gibson and Gina Rodriguez after Wrath of Man.
