Future State: Dark Detective 3 recently witnessed another Batman betrayal from one of the greatest heroes of Gotham to its own iconic vigilante.
Gotham quickly faces the downfall of vigilantes in the broken city, as the Magistrate, The Peacekeepers, and the Cybers continue to dominate everything that they consider a threat towards the city and its people, while the citizens also continue to become more and more unsupportive towards their so called heores. As anti-heroes like Jason Todd and the Ravager start ignoring the moral code and breaking principles while hunting down other masks in order to survive as they are repeatedly faced with a do-or-die situation. Gotham’s original vigilante is also taken down amidst a Batman betrayal by yet another traitor in the recently released “Future State: Dark Detective #3.”
The Batman Betrayal
The back-up story reveals that, Cole Cash comes into an alliance with the Huntress in order to help Luke Fox get out of Gotham. Luke, once the master of the Batwing Suit, acknowledges the fact that true freedom lies outside the city despite being a part of the Fox family, who have aligned themselves with the Magistrate to supply Technology and Weapons. The trio agrees to a deal, despite Huntress’ prior unwillingness which is later dealt with because of the handsome fee that Luke is paying. However, things don’t go as planned when the trio find themselves engaged in an explosive chase upon being discovered by the Peacekeepers.
The chase reaches an epic conclusion when another vigilante, Veil, joins the heroes guaranteeing them a safe passage to the docks. On reaching the docks, Helena reveals a super- fast submarine which cannot be detected by the Magistrate. However, it is later revealed that the sub is one of Lucius’ creation, which was developed before he turned bad.
As the trio start to believe that they had successfully escaped, Luke turns out to be a double-agent. While the trio face grave danger as drones, Peacekeepers and the whole calvary arrive to take them down. Luke who himself set all of this up, states that he did all this in order to erase his own past. He made a deal with the Magistrate in which he agreed to trap and turn in Huntress, a.k.a. the Queen of Clubs. Witnessing Cole’s concern towards his safety, Luke offers him a lifeline which would allow the hero to escape in the sub while Huntress take the fall.
The Conclusion- Batman Betrayal
Just as any other would have saved their own skin in a situation like this, Cole also agrees and tries to escapes but later realises that his conscience won’t let him do this to another hero. He them returns to the dock and jumps in a high-Octane war, knocks out Huntress, places her in the vessels and decides to buy her some time to escape by staying back and fight off Luke and his employers.
As it turns out, Huntress was the one who escaped and Cole gets caught which upsets Luke as he shared a bond with the grifter, who was hired to protect the Fox Family. Though more hollow traitors are yet to be revealed, it is most definitely a shock to see a former hero and fan favourite hero turning into a Jerk politician, abandoning his principles and moral core, bringing disgrace to the Bat-symbol that he once wore.
