New Gods is Ava DuVernay’s DC film and it features abstruse comic book character. The Oscar-nominated film Selma and the super hit Netflix miniseries When They See Us is what Ava DuVernay is famous for. He had signed up for the project as both writer and director back in 2018. Last year, Comic Writer Tom King joined DuVernay as her co-writer. Since then both have been working very hard on the script of the film New Gods.
However, there are no new updates on the project so far. The most recent update on the project came up in January as it was confirmed by DuVermay that there are some ongoing works on the script, while prospective creative ideas had just started.
What did DC and Warner Bros. decide?
There is no official release date for the film New Gods. This might be because it’s still in its early development stage. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, DC and Warner Bros. have reshuffled their dates for some of their planned films if 2022. The film that will be marked as the DCEU’s next will be Wonder Woman 1984 which will most probably arrive in august. DC has grappled with the shared universe format and has therefore begun to pull back from that to work on individual films. For this reason, it’s not clear if New Gods will drop within the DCEU, or will it simply be self-contained.

It will take some time before fans could get some clarification on that. However, DuVernay was still very glad to provide a brief update about the progress of the film- New Gods. On some fan’s requests, DuVermay revealed that she’s “working on fourth draft of a scene featuring All Widow this week.“
Her reply might have surprised many fans as All-Widow is such an abstruse character. In the film New Gods, All-Widow is the queen of Bugs (a race of humanoid insects). This character first appeared in 1972 in New Gods #9.
Who all will be casted in the new film?
This sounds interesting and shows how well DuVernay has researched on this character. Fans can expect some interesting and uncertain segments for the film. However, DuVernay has not revealed what all characters will be there in New Gods. But she confirmed that DC Villain Darkseid and his Furies will appear or sure.
We can also expect DuVernay’s favorite Superhero- Big Barda. In the comics, The New Gods were created by Jack Kirby and are a race of near-godlike beings.
