According to reports, Marvel is considering dividing Avengers: Secret Wars into two movies, one of which would be released as part of the yet-to-be-announced Phase 7.
Avengers: Secret Wars fans might need to wait a little longer. According to reports, Marvel Studios is considering dividing the next superhero epic into two movies, postponing the second part until Phase 7.
Reliable insiders told Inside the Magic that Marvel Studios is rethinking the best way to distribute Secret Wars. One of the ideas is to divide the next film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe into two halves. If Marvel does proceed in that direction, Secret Wars Part II and the conclusion of the entire Multiverse Saga would be postponed by “a few years.” In February 2023, online rumors appeared suggesting that Marvel Studios was considering splitting the impending blockbuster movie into two parts. Marvel Studios and Disney have not yet commented on the reports, so fans should take these assertions with a grain of salt for the time being. Currently, Avengers: Secret Wars is slated to arrive in theatres on May 1, 2026.
At the San Diego Comic-Con in 2022, the movie Avengers: Secret Wars was unveiled. It is anticipated to be a direct sequel to Avengers: The Kang Dynasty. While the forthcoming Avengers movies’ stories are still a secret, Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange is apparently going to be an enemy in The Kang Dynasty. Strange has emerged as a significant character in The Multiverse Saga, and his most recent movie, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, appears to have set up the Secret Wars plot. The 2022 movie’s end-credits scene made reference to an oncoming “incursion,” a term taken from the Secret Wars comic book narrative from 2015 that is used to represent two universes poised to meet. The screenplay for Avengers: Secret Wars is being written by Michael Waldron, whose Marvel Cinematic Universe writing credentials include Loki and Multiverse of Madness.
Marvel is putting an emphasis on quality over quantity
Fans and journalists generally liked the previous three MCU installments, often referred to as “The Infinity Saga,” but the just-ended Phase 4 garnered a more divided reception. Marvel Studios is allegedly reevaluating its forthcoming slate with a stronger focus on quality over quantity after getting “internal unfavourable feedback” regarding Phase 4’s distribution and quality. Although not confirmed, Marvel may be considering breaking Avengers: Secret Wars into two movies and adding another chapter to The Multiverse Saga due to its newfound commitment to creating the greatest product possible. This choice has already had an impact on upcoming MCU projects like Echo, Ironheart, and Agatha: Coven of Chaos, among others.
Secret Wars: Who Will Direct It?
Avengers: Secret Wars does not currently have a director. Destin Daniel Cretton, who directed Shang-Chi, is currently attached to helm The Kang Dynasty but is not anticipated to helm Secret Wars. The directors of Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame, Anthony and Joe Russo, are also not in the race to helm the next Avengers film. Ryan Coogler, the director of Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, was supposed to have been hired in late 2022, but he soon dismissed the reports, calling them “insane.” When Marvel will reveal the Secret Wars director is a mystery.
