Batwoman Season 3 Update

Batwoman Season 3: Everything We Know

Batwoman has just wrapped its season 2 and fans are already expecting its season 3. Here is everything we know about Batwoman season 3.

The CW’s Batwoman with season 2 had a unique experience this year as it did something no other Arrowverse show had ever previously done. Although Batwoman did had a dramatic year, with Javicia Leslie taking over from Ruby Rose in the title role at the start of season 2 in January. After Ruby Rose left the series, instead of recasting Kate Kane then, the creators introduced a brand-new character in Javicia Leslie’s Ryan Wilder, and she took over the Batwoman mantle for season 2. This was the first time in the franchise’s entire history where a lead got replaced after the first season.

Batwoman Series

Like most of the Arrowverse dramas this year, Batwoman season 2 had a shorter episode order due to the global pandemic. Other stories and planned events were canceled, as well. For example, the Arrowverse was set to have a Batwoman and Superman & Lois crossover but had to scrap it due to the risks of COVID-19. With Gotham City gripped by the False Face Society, the show introduced horrifying Batman villain Black Mask and the previously teased Safiyah as the season’s main threat.

It was up to the new Batwoman to stop them, but she was not the only hero in Gotham as the original Scarlet Knight, Kate Kane, resurfaced and Luke Fox even suited up as Batwing. Ahead of the season finale on the evening of Sunday, June 27, fans are wondering whether the show will return and whether it will replace the lead again.

The Release

A good thing about The CW Arrowverse superhero universe is that, for the most part, fans rarely have to wait for too long to find out whether or not their favorite shows are coming back for another season. The third season is set to premiere on October 13, 2021. The series was premiered on October 6, 2019, and its first season concluded on May 17, 2020, after 20 episodes. The second season premiered on January 17, 2021, and a third season has also been ordered. So far, it is unknown how many episodes Batwoman season 3 will be getting, which is not unusual as that doesn’t get revealed until much later.

The Plot

As Batwoman season 2 has just finished airing, it’s going to be a while before The CW releases any trailers for the third season, especially because it hasn’t started filming yet. With the show’s return set for October 13, we can probably expect the first trailer for season 3 to be released sometime in September. The Batwoman season 2 finale set up many new mysteries for next season. Although the events of Batwoman Season 3 are likely to depend on what happens in the Season 2 finale, recent developments may be setting up a major villain from Batman history to take on Batwoman.

Batwoman Season 3

In the final shot of the finale, several Batman trophies like Poison Ivy’s vines, Penguin’s umbrella, and Mad Hatter’s hat were released to the public. Based on Batwoman showrunner Caroline Dries’s recent comments, some of those iconic Batman baddies will be playing a key role next season. Another big new storyline for Batwoman season 3 is the introduction of Ryan’s biological mother, as Alice revealed that she never died during childbirth after all.

The Cast

Javicia Leslie’s Ryan Wilder will continue to wear the cowl, after proving herself as a worthy replacement for Ruby Rose’s Kate Kane. Following the finale, Batwoman season 3 will see the return of Meagan Tandy as Sophie Moore, Camrus Johnson as Luke Fox/Batwing, Nicole Kang as Mary Hamilton, and Rachel Skarsten as Alice/Beth Kane. The only new series regular for Batwoman season 2 was Leslie, but an original cast member is departing the Bat-centric series ahead of season 3.

Camrus Johnson and Nicole Kang will most likely return as tech genius Luke Fox and medical student Mary Hamilton respectively, as they continue to aid Ryan Wilder’s path to justice. According to Dries, Dougray Scott’s Jacob Kane will officially not be back next season. As for Day’s Kate Kane, the Batwoman season 2 finale is, for now, the last fans will see of her, but they are leaving the door open for her to return.

Batwoman season 3 will premiere on a new timeslot starting on Wednesday, October 13 at 9/8c, right after the Legends of Tomorrow season 7 opener. Since DC FanDome 2021 will be taking place on Saturday, October 16, that same week, the Arrowverse drama will very likely be present to reveal more about Batwoman season 3.
