Bill and Ted Face the Music might be reaching nearly 3 decades after the predecessor, featuring Keanu Reeves. But given the series’ tendency for diving throughout the past, it seems only reasonable that the franchise would take its time. But like his character in the film, star Keanu Reeves also experienced his own history on the set of Bill and Ted Face the Music.
In the 3rd movie, Bill and Ted are middle-aged and still haven’t composed the song that will protect the world. In a last-ditch action to achieve their mission, Bill and Ted reconnect with Grim Reaper himself. But years after their last big-screen impression, the Wyld Stallyns frontmen each have daughters now.
Samara Weaving and Brigette Lundy-Paine are playing the daughters of Bill and Ted, respectively. And the personalities play a climacteric role in their fathers’ story. Much of Bill and Ted Face the Music swings on growing up and enacting the torch to a new era. And in the same fashion, Reeves arrived face to face with the next generation of somebody from his past.
Weaving Shares The Experience Working With Keanu Reeves
During a Comic-Con@Home panel for Bill and Ted Face the Music, director Kevin Smith asked members of the cast and crew their apexes from making the movie. And most of their explanations tapped into fun behind-the-scenes stories.
For her part, Weaving remembered seeing Sadler, Winter, and Reeves reunite. But at the last minute, Weaving expanded one more chunk to her answer.
“Also, Hugo [Weaving] and Keanu worked together,” the actor said. “So that was a weird connection as well. Like, you killed my uncle.”
“The Ready or Not star is, in fact, the niece of actor Hugo Weaving, who starred opposite Reeves as Agent Smith in The Matrix trilogy. Alas, Samara Weaving confirms she did not — as her uncle so memorably did in the Wachowskis’ movies — address Reeves as “Mr. Anderson.”
Coincidentally, Reeves was in the middle of filming The Matrix 4 when the coronavirus pandemic hit. Lana Wachowski comes to direct the film. Although Carrie-Anne Moss will come back as Trinity.
In early 2020, the actor clarified that a list of conflict initially sat in the way of his Matrix return. When that was sorted out, production walked forward without him. Perhaps the wait is filming now implies something can be worked out.
The Matrix 4 is set to release on April 1, 2022.
