The award-winning comedy content creator Kenya Barris will return for one final season. ABC announced that the Tracee Ellis Ross and Anthony Anderson starter show is coming to an end but will return for one final season.
Barris announced the news in a heartfelt post on Instagram. The Disney-owned broadcaster initially planned for a 15 episode run for Season 7 after leaving it in the middle but the cast and creative team ganged up and demanded its return and it gathered a 6 episode pickup.
Why Black-ish will end after season 8?
The series is one of the best comedy shows of all time, being in the top 10 favorite and having gathered certain nominations like Emmy Awards and the prestigious Peabody. The Black Family also bought names and laurels for Disney and is also expecting a 3rd possible spin-off “Old-ish” written and directed by Barris. Grown-ish (originally made by ABC) is now Disney’s one of the most significant hits, especially for Freeform. Mixed-ish (which focuses on the younger version of Ross Rainbow) is a prequel spins off and awaits news on season 4.
Black-ish along with The Conners, The Goldbergs portray a new diversified era of comedy by displaying different kinds of families. The show never wavered for the fun quotient but alongside focused on various in-hand matters like Pandemic, Elections and Voting Rights, Social equality, and justice. The writer took to his IG handle and expressed how grateful he is for being able to complete the show and end the show just how when and where he liked, with the Super Stellar Starcast. Barris though is working on various film and TV projects for Netflix but he continues to be very much involved in the show and its making.
There are in total three virtuoso shows (This is us and Brooklyn Nine-Nine) along with Black-ish that are coming to an end during the 2021-2022 broadcast season. So it’s a WRAP for Black-ish but you can always go and revisit those jokes again and again.
