The show reached an epic end in Naruto: Shippuden after the “Fourth Great Ninja War” arc which was received great appreciation by fans and is still popularly discussed by them. Ultimately the show got a spin-off series called “Boruto: Naruto Next Generations” which revolved around the story of the son of our beloved Hero Naruto.

The Shocking Development In Boruto

Although Boruto didn’t receive much appreciation from fans for not meeting the thrill level and expectations that one would have considering the fan following of its predecessor. The last Arc of the series introduced a seemingly unbeatable villain, Isshiki Otsutsuki. There are many power-up modes in Naruto’s arsenal that he has used previously. These include the “Toad Sage Mode” that he used in the Pain arc and the “Nine Tails Mode” and “Kurama Mode” which he used in the Fourth Great Ninja War arc. Kurama mode was the most powerful mode that Naruto used till now. However, this was not enough in the fight against the new foe. Shockingly, Kurama mode was not the most powerful mode that our hero can use.

Baryon Mode And An Unexpected Goodbye

When the new foe started to overpower our hero, his friend, and partner, Kurama, the Nine-Tailed Fox, suggested a last resort with an ultimate cost, “The Baryon Mode.” The name is derived from the real-life scientific atomic particle “Baryons.” With reference to its name, the powerup creates strength by fusing Naruto’s Chakra with Kurama’s Chakra, similar to nuclear fusion, to create an unbeatable force. As revealed by the issue’s cover page, Naruto‘s usual orange-yellow glow is now replaced by the bold red color of Kurama’s fur, which forms a sleek coat around him with tails protruding from the back.

Naruto’s face and hair take on traits of the Nine-Tails, and an Uzumaki logo with the tails of Kurama spinning off forms on his chest, representing their fusion. The only catch of wielding this power was the cost of the User, i.e. Naruto. This power uses Chakra, to sum up, strength and when the Chakra is completely depleted without being replenished, the life force of the user is drained and they die. The peculiarity of this power is that while in this mode, the user can suck out anybody’s Chakra simply by touching them.  With every strike Naruto makes, Isshiki‘s life is gradually chipped away and  As Kurama describes it, simply hitting the target is enough to claim victory.

It was anticipated that this would end up with our beloved hero dying after using this form. However, the latest issue reveals that we are still getting a heartbreaking goodbye, just not to the one we were expecting. It has been confirmed that the one to die as a result of using this mode is Kurama, who lied and made the sacrifice in order to save his friend and host, Naruto. Though initially hated, Evil turned Good Kurama was started to be loved by the end of Naruto Shippuden and his death that no one was ready for.
