The MCU has somewhere failed Hulk, the only way to end his arc satisfyingly is to decide whether he can be the best villain idea for The Avengers 5.
The Incredible Hulk still holds the power to be the perfect villain in Avengers 5. Despite the fourth phase of Marvel Cinematic Universe is solving the relations between Bruce Banner and Green Gaint, he idea of having a happy ending that can’t erase the fear that doesn’t explore his greatest fear would be a betrayal of the character’s arc.
Before speaking about Avengers 5, throughout the MCU journey every MCU superhero was faced to encounter their greatest fears: for Tony Stark, it was the idea that he won’t be able to save everyone, for Captain America, it’s the fear of not being able to do his duty, for the God of Thunder it was inherent unworthiness, for Black Widow it’s the fear of not being able to escape her past.
But Bruce Banner is the one who has never fully faced his greatest fear, his real fear is that once he will lose all his control with Avengers: Age Of Ultron and Thor: Ragnarok merely hinting at the full potential of that nightmare. Both incidents presented that Hulk loses all his control and the Humanity of Bruce somewhere died inside him.
Hulk Could Be Great Villain In Avengers 5
In the earliest Drafts by Joss Whedon’s ensemble, Hulk is playing the role of the greatest villain and All superheroes come together to take him down. That would presumably have set Banner on the same path as he ended up going on in the MCU, resulting in the creation of Professor Hulk, an apparent balance between Banner and Hulk. But somewhere the balance they are showing is not the real balance, Hulk is still the victim of dynamics, and wrapping up his arc is still not that satisfying as MCU thinks it is. A plan far better than this is that let the Green Giant turn savage to become the best villain for The Avengers 5.
Crucially, the use of Scarlet Witch’s vision in Avengers: Age of Ultron as a mirror to reflect Avenger’s greatest fear was an inspired move and this move started the course for the rest of Infinite page. But Hulk’s vision was not shown explicitly as his greatest fear is of losing his control. But here is the decision going on about the fear of Hulk, not Banner. His greatest fear is Banner losing his mental control. The audience has witnessed what happened to professor Hulk when Iron Man tried to trigger him by accidentally mentioning Banner During his rampage.
MCU somewhere knows that the transformation of Green Gaint in Professor Hulk is not the solution of Hulk’s MCU arc, because he has to give up everything he is just for the sake of Bruce Banner. Yes after some long hardworking years Bruce does not look like the hulk and can take advantage of his abilities, but in Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers Infinity War is was hinted that Hulk has a will to be free out of Banner’s body not just to look like right.
The smart Hulk and that newly made good relation between Hulk and Banner is not a real thing, Hulk should be given a chance to fight back to satisfy his arc. The best way to do is satisfyingly is to let him lose his control and become the best villain for Avengers 5. It would also be a change of pace for the new hero ensemble to face-off against a known enemy with more personal stakes rather than just another intergalactic threat
