It has been reported that the recently announced venture, Captain America 4, will be a separate project from Chris Evan’s rumoured return as Steve Rogers in the MCU.
Captain America 4 will be unrelated to the expected return of Chris Evans as Steve Rogers. Anthony Mackie, who plays the character of Sam Wilson, debuted as the New Captain America in the season finale of the Disney+ series, The Falcon and the Winter Soldier. Soon after, Marvel announced that Captain America 4 is in progress from the Falcon, and the winter soldier exec, Malcolm Spellman, and Mackie is all set to return as the New Captain America. This intriguing news followed the earlier rumours that claimed Chris Evans will be returning as Steve Rogers in MCU.
Chris Evan’s Journey as the Cap.
The Marvel fans first saw Evans in Captain America: The First Avenger as a weak and frail kid named Steve Rogers, who simply wanted to stand up to his bullies. What happened after made history, he got injected with the super-soldier serum and started his journey as the iconic Captain America. On his journey, he befriended Sam Wilson, who was not only a loyal friend to Rogers but also assumed the mantle of the Avenger Falcon. Although Avengers: Endgame left a lot of cliffhangers, they showed some new beginnings, including the scene where Steve (now an old man) chooses Sam to be The next Captain America.
What is being reported?
The new Deadline report claims that Captain America 4 will be an entirely separate project from any possible project featuring Chris Evans. Ironically, Deadline was the first to report Chris Evans’ possible return as Steve Rogers. Although it is not confirmed but the report by Deadline is confident that Captain America 4 featuring Mackie as the new cap, which will be written by Spellman, will not be related in any shape or form to Evans’ rumoured to return.
Wilson’s journey and him finally becoming the New Captain America.
The season finale of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, wonderfully showcased Wilson’s arc which started with him being hesitant to take up the Captain America Mantle and ended with him completely embracing his new identity. Seeing Sam in his unique Captain America Costume, made as a gift from Wakanda, was a fantastic sight for the Marvel fans. What made the finale even better was Sam getting Isaiah Bradley recognized, with the golden statue and plaque (which acknowledged Bradley’s sacrifices for America), at the Captain America Museum. It was signified by Wilson time and again that he has earned the title of Captain America, as he never intently sought out power. He selflessly helped others and never even took the Super Soldier serum.
It is safe to say that Sam’s journey has come a full circle, from being a wingman he now has earned the position of the lead man.
What does Marvel have to say?
Both Marvel president, Kevin Feige, and Evans have denied any possibilities of Evans returning to MCU as Steve Rogers. This is because Steve’s story got a fair conclusion in Avengers: Endgame and there is no need to write another chapter of his story. Mackie on the other hand has done a commendable job in showcasing Sam’s character arc before and after the events that occurred in Avengers: Endgame. We believe that Marvel has done a great job in phase four, as while moving forward they have still acknowledged the past. Marvel should now let Sam Wilson have his spotlight as the new Captain America.
