As it turns out, Marvel did try to bring the popular fan theory into reality
Ever since The Falcon & The Winter Soldier was announced, the fans started to formulate theories about how their precious Captain America could make his return to the MCU after being retired in “Avengers: Endgame”. The fans discussed different possible theories that could take place in the series, they considered his return as his elderly self, returning to mentor and help Sam embrace the Captain America mantle.
Some believed that we may see him while the series explore Bucky’s life in the past. There were also theories that he would return to his prime self as a result of time travel. Unfortunately, we could not witness any of these theories becoming reality in the series but The Flacon & The Winter Soldier’s writer recently confirmed that Evans’s return as Captain America was considered at one point but just for a cameo.
The Writer Opens Up
In an interview with Yahoo Entertainment, Malcolm Spellman, the writer of “The Falcon & The Winter Soldier” was asked if they ever considered bringing back Chris Evans. Since Chris is how we have always known Captain America since his debut back in 2011, so fans are always going to have a special place for him in their hearts. Therefore, it was only logical for the showrunners to bring back the original Captain for one final time and give closure to the fans. Spellman confirmed that it may had been discussed but couldn’t say for sure. “It was discussed, I think. I don’t know. I am officially saying I don’t know” he said.
There have also been reports about Evans return in the MCU so it was only relevant that everyone would think his return would happen in The Falcon & The Winter Soldier, the series about two of the closest friends of Steve Rogers. But now that the series has aired all of its episodes, we know Steve’s return will happen in another MCU project. Now that Captain America 4 has been officially announced we can expect his return to be in the movie. It could be possible that Marvel thought about making Evans’ cameo at a more significant point in time in the future.
Of course, there is always a chance that his cameo might not happen in Captain America 4 but in another more significant movie like “Avengers: Secret Invasion”. We will just have to wait patiently to see our beloved Cap one last time. It all comes down to whether or not Chris is up for it and luckily he has expressed his interest in playing small or big roles again in the MCU. This won’t be the first time that we will see Evans’ cameo in MCU movies as we have seen his previous cameos in Thor: The Dark World and SpiderMan: Homecoming, but his cameo might be his last and that makes it all worthwhile.
