The meaning of carnage is ‘The violent killing of a large number of people’. This is the word ‘carnage’ definition that showed up recently before the trailer for Venom: Let There Be Carnage, the sequel to Sony’s Spider-Man villain Venom movie, dropped. The post-credit scene of Venom (2018) revealed the actor Woody Harrelson caged up in a high-security prison being interviewed by Eddie Brock portrayed by Tom Hardy with the former telling the latter, “When I get out of here, and I will… there’s gonna be carnage.”
Venom Let There Be Carnage Pogrom Trailer
“I am the ultimate insanity! I am CARNAGE!”
To put it simply, Carnage is what you get when a psychopathic serial killer meets an unstable symbiote. Carnage in Venom is a villain that even Spider-Man doesn’t mess around with and rightfully so. He is way stronger and faster than him, can shapeshift his body, whole or parts, into deadly weapons, and relishes torturing, maiming, and killing.
Note: The name ‘Carnage’ refers to a combination of the two i.e. a serial killer and an alien parasitic life form.
Venom Let There Be Carnage Cast, Woody Harrelson portraying a Psychopath?
“If I can’t stop it being born… I’ll kill it before it’s a day old!”
Cletus Kasady, a deranged murderous psychopath portrayed by Woody Harrelson in the upcoming sequel of Spider-Man villain Venom, has been the host of the Carnage symbiote most of the time. Throughout his comic book history, tiny snippets of Cletus Kasady’s past having been revealed. As a young boy, Cletus Kasady was a victim of severe child abuse. He was regularly beaten to a pulp by his father. The only person who ever loved Cletus Kasady was his mother. As a result, Cletus Kasady killed his mother’s pet dog because he was jealous of it and wanted all of his mother’s affection.
Further, he burnt down his school which resulted in the death of all the students, teachers, and staff. The day would come when Cletus’s father would accidentally kill his mother, the one person Cletus cared for. Later, it is revealed that Cletus was also abused by his grandmother, which resulted in him pushing her down a staircase to her death.
How did Cletus Kasady end up with a symbiote? Or rather how did the symbiote get him?
“Everyone is a target!”
At first glance, it’s a cliché symbiote story: man gets symbiote. In the comics, after Cletus Kasady was convicted of killing 11 innocent people, he was serving his prison sentence. His cellmate happened to be none other than Eddie Brock, the host of Venom. In the comics, Venom despised Spider-Man mainly because the symbiote had first bonded with the wall-crawling web-slinger who was able to break free from his clutches. Kasady and Brock didn’t really get along as Brock regularly undermined his presence which didn’t sit well with Cletus. Just as Cletus felt he had enough of Brock’s superiority complex, the Venom symbiote sneaked its way into the cell and reclaimed Eddie Brock as his host. As Venom escaped the cell, it left behind a little black ooze. Ewww! The black ooze landed on Kasady’s hand. Ewww! You can guess what happens when a parasite meets its host.
Hmm, what does a serial killer who bonded with an alien parasitic life form do when he escapes prison?
“We’re gonna paint the whole damn world red!”
Soon after, the city was plagued with gruesome series of random killings, Spider-Man started investigating. At first he suspected Venom 2 behind the brutal killings even though he had stranded Venom on a deserted island. After Spider-Man finally deduced the identity of the killer, he enlisted the help of one of his mortal enemies, Venom, who revealed that the symbiotes reproduce asexually and the Venom symbiote had given birth.
Wait, you’re telling me that Carnage is Venom’s offspring?
“Brock, it’s you in there right? Always knew we’d meet again, Daddy Dearest. Or should I call you ‘Junior’? Gotta admit this father-son-grandson mess gives me a headache.”
It’s a bit more complicated than that but yes; the Carnage symbiote is a child of the Venom symbiote.
After a brutal showdown, Venom was finally able to separate Cletus Kasady and his offspring symbiote by tearing them asunder and devouring the symbiote that formed out of his own black ooze. Ewww! Although this seemed the end of the Carnage symbiote comics being comics, nobody is truly dead. A part of Carnage had survived inside Cletus Kasady’s body which drew him to the Negative Zone where he was able to bond with an identical symbiote to become Carnage again.
“You think – – what? – – You can grow yourself an army of Carnage-soldiers in the body banks? Trust me. One of me is plenty.”
