It has been reported that David Fincher and Netflix have begun talks about continuing the Mindhunter series after having put the 3rd season of this psychological thriller on hold, indefinitely.
The Mindhunter series is based in the 70s and focuses on two FBI agents studying the psyche of a flourishing serial killer of that time. Two seasons of this show are already on the streaming giant, but it has not lived up to the critics’ expectations. This is possibly the reason why Netflix has withheld the production of Mindhunter Season 3 for so long now. However, Mindhunter does in fact have a loyal and passionate fanbase asking for a 3rd and concluding season, which has prompted David Fincher and Netflix to talk about a possible 3rd and concluding season.
Resource of small Screen has said, “All I can really tell you about Mindhunter is that conversations between Netflix and Fincher are ongoing. They are discussing the possibility of bringing the show back for a third season. It’s still very early days, but Fincher sounds more upbeat about the project.” David Fincher has said in previous interviews, “I certainly needed some time away. We had all hands on deck to finish Season 2 and we didn’t have a ton of scripts and a ton of outlines and a bible standing by for Season 3. I’ll admit I was a little bit like, ‘I don’t know that I’m ready to spend another two years in the crawl space.’”
If Mindhunter season 3 ever gets a greenlight, the timeframe within which the season will complete can be lengthy. This is because of Fincher’s schedule. He is well known for being extra cautious and hyper-detailed when it comes to his production, supervising every small aspect of the project, which is extremely time consuming.
Since nothing regarding this report has been confirmed by Netflix, we would suggest the Mindhunter fans take everything with a grain of salt.
