YES! You heard that right. DC FanDome is returning for 2021.
What is DC FanDome? You mean fandom?
No, we mean FanDome. Basically, it’s a big F U to COVID from DC and Warner Bros. When everything was shutting down in the goofiest year in the history of mankind i.e. 2020, Warner Bros transitioned their share of Comic-Con to a full on giant fan-driven virtual event in order to showcase all their upcoming DC comic projects. The event featured trailers of live-action and animated movies, TV series for HBO Max and CW, videogames like Gotham Knights and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League, comic books, poster reveals, cast interviews etc all accessible from the comfort of our homes to hype the fans. It’s becoming a sort of a tradition for DC fans.
When is it scheduled for?
October 16, 2021 is when we are going to be seeing the DC FanDome.
What to expect from this year’s event?
The last year’s DC FanDome was as hit as Battinson’s punches landing on a thug’s face as seen in The Batman trailer. The event was received universally well as it lit the whole internet and the comic book world on fire with an avalanche of good news for DC fans. DC comics trended all the week on the internet.
As of now, only the date of the 2021’s DC FanDome has been officially released. From here on, it’s all speculations based on the past DC news.
The Movies
The Batman
Since, Matt Reeves’ The Batman starring Robert Pattinson as the titular character has wrapped up filming and would be pretty much done by October; it is safe to postulate that we will be getting a new trailer for the movie. We might even see a small clip of the movie to give the fans a glimpse of detective Battinson.
Black Adam
Black Adam movie starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson might cook up some footage as they are currently filming the movie and they have plenty of time to present a small clip till 16th October 2021. We might even get our first look at our Justice Society including the much awaited Dr Fate.
The Flash
Arguably the most important movie of DC coming out which will decide the fate of the DCEU; The Flash will officially mark the beginning of the multiverse of the DC which will open for more director-driven DC movies in the future. The introduction of the DCEU’s multiverse is set to bring in Michael Keaton’s Batman and we might get a glimpse of the aged caped crusader. If not, then at least we will be getting a first look at Flash’s new costume.
Aquaman 2
Jason Momoa starrer Aquaman (2018) is the most successful DCEU movie to date; a feat, not even Zack Snyder’s Batman, Superman, and Wonder Woman starrer Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice has achieved. Hence, a sequel and spin-off were immediately green-lit. Although the spin-off The Trench has been cancelled, Aquaman 2 will start filming this summer. They will have a couple of months to hook up the fans with something at the event.
Shazam 2! Fury of the Gods
The sequel to 2019’s Shazam! has barely started the production as this movie won’t actually be released till June 2023. That is a whole lot of time. Don’t get your hopes high for a trailer or teaser. But we the fans could always settle for some concept art and a cool interview with the cast members.
Zatanna
DC’s answer to Marvel’s Scarlet Witch, Zatanna seems to be in good hands. Emerald Fennell, who is penning the screenplay of the movie, recently won an Oscar. The best we can expect is the official cast announcement for the movie.
Which leaves us with one question: Where does Henry Cavill fit into all this?
Since the news of J.J. Abrams’s Bad Robot Production helming a black Superman surfaced, the DC fandom has been split into two camps. While one wants to reinstate Henry Cavill as the definitive Superman for the DCEU, the other wants to make use of the multiverse to introduce a Superman that shared the same values as its comic book counterpart. Though Henry Cavill definitely looks the part, the poor direction from Zack Snyder and stale writing from Chris Terrio had already caused a division in the DC fandom. With the recent talks of a black Superman aka Calvin Ellis, is there any hope for a Man of Steel 2? Is Henry cavil is even a part of the DCEU?
TV Series
The Peacemaker
John Cena starrer The Peacemaker HBO Max series is coming out and will explore the origins of DC’s douchey Captain America rip-off. The character will first appear in the upcoming The Suicide Squad movie. Writer and director James Gunn has already confirmed the series will have multiple seasons. The recent set photos saw John Cena covered in blood from head to toe in his Peacemaker uniform.
GCPD
Set in Matt Reeve’s The Batman universe and starring Jeffrey Wright as Jim Gordon, the show is set to explore the city of Gotham that will be established in The Batman movie, through the eyes of James Gordon. Hoping for a trailer would be wishful thinking but we can definitely expect more information on the show,
Green Lantern Corps
A space buddy-cop drama with different Green Lanterns, this is something the DC fans of Green Lanterns comics are curious to see how the series will be handled. Some castings of the show surfaced online in the past days. It’s going to be set in many different time periods of modern history with many different Green Lanterns facing their inner demons as well as extraterrestrial threats to protect the same prejudiced human societies that don’t hold them as equals.
The other projects, they can show the concepts or make casting announcements online like the Static Shock movie or the Blue Beetle movie.
The Videogames
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League
Set in the successful Arkhamverse, Suicide Squad comprising of Deadshot, King Shark, Captain Boomerang, and Harley Quinn are sent on a suicide mission to take out the Justice League by Amanda Waller during an ongoing invasion by Brainiac, who is mind-controlling the heroes. In the last DC FanDome, we saw the first cinematic trailer of the game. Maybe, this time we get to see actual gameplay footage.
Gotham Knights
Speaking of gameplay footage, Gotham Knights showcased its own and easily stood out in the DC FanDome. Since then the studio has gone silent with no real news or updates regarding the progress on the finished product. Maybe, this time we will get to see more Bat-family introduced like the Batwoman.
Injustice 3
Yeah, yeah. Call it whatever you want but listen to this; it’s been two years since Mortal Kombat 11 came out and all of its DLCs are complete. What’s the next stop for the studio? Their second most famous IP: Injustice series. Not saying that there will be a trailer but an announcement will also suffice.
