Fans are desperately waiting for Dune by Denis Villeneuve. As everyone knows that the filming has almost been done. But, Denis Villeneuve has felt something is lacking in Dune. He decided to readjust the film accordingly. He had decided to reshoot the scenes even before the pandemic. But the pandemic has hit hard and has resulted in a toll on production. The director is still rushing to complete the film before 18 December 2020, so the release date would not be affected. The reshooting of the film will begin soon in August only.
Denis, during an interview, has shared some of his views about the feature film. He has got the vision of the Dune when he first read the book. He was mesmerized by the cover of the book. ” I saw that book cover about a man with blue eyes”. Villeneuve was 13 or 14 years old when he first read the book. He was impacted hard by the sci-fi novel.
It is Painful For Him To Not Sit With Editor
The main movie has already been shot. What is needed at this moment is a readjustment of the film, according to the director. The pandemic has “crushed” his schedule. Because editing is not being done the way he wanted. Editors of the team have to work alone from their home and Denis is not part of it. He feels numb and it is “painful for him”. For him, ” editing is like playing music with someone and you need to be in the same room”. He feels bad for not being able to be in that same room which is obviously hectic for him.
His editor is a psychiatrist, thus he wants to be around him so he can ease his anxiety. He praises Paul Lambert because of his similar sensibility. He feels it’s good to have a distance for having a certain reaction. Also, he is all praises for his VFX team. “It is the best crew in the world and I am very proud “. There are high human efforts that are put together from different homes to his “home”.
Complex Powerful Story
He chose to adapt Dune again. He finds Dune by Frank Herbert a rich novel and this has led him to dive deeper into the story. The story focuses on the complexity and richness of the culture that is described with the help of a boy. He adopts new cultures and teaches humility to embrace a strange environment. Dune is a “complex powerful book”, according to Denis Villeneuve.
When he was directing in Canada, Science Fiction was out of his reach. But when he entered Hollywood, he knew what he was supposed to do. The main goal from the beginning was to make Dune. Dune has impacted his earlier movies as well. He has adapted the deserted Islands in earlier movies. The impact of silence is the internal journey and Dune has paved ways to that internal journey.
Difficult Casting
The casting was difficult for him. He has always wanted to cast someone who can bring life to the character. This was so so as to incarnate the characters. Timothée Chalamet was his first choice from the beginning. He wanted him to be Paul. And convincing the actor was not difficult for him.
Denis Villeneuve is obsessed with telling stories. And this obsession has helped him direct beautiful movies.
Dune is a highly anticipated movie of the year. It will be released on December 18, 2020.
