So Many Questions Finally Answered
While being forced by the evil witch Agatha Harkness, to go a journey of her past, Wanda relives the most significant moments of her life again. These moments included her parents’ death, her getting superpowers, her final closure with Vision’s corpse, and how she ended up creating the Hex. It was revealed that Wanda’s father used to make a living by smuggling and selling DVDs of American Sitcoms. While his business was facing some hardship, the Maximoff family used to watch these shows together for a night. The night of the death of her parents, was one of these traditional TV nights for the Maximoffs and this time Wanda was given the choice to select what to watch and she immediately chooses The Dick Van Dyke Show Season 2, Episode 21 as it’s her favorite.
The episode featured the scene where the couple, Rob (Dick Van Dyke) and Laura (Mary Tyler Moore), are watching a horror movie and on the next day, the horror movie starts to come true which is later revealed to be a nightmare at the end of the episode. While the Maximoffs are watching this show a bombardment lands in their apartment, killing her parents, and overwhelmed by all this she comforts herself by saying “at the end of the episode, it was all a dream.” It was also teased to be the very first time Wanda practiced her Magic.
The Biggest Connecting Link
Comparing her devastating situation to a sitcom in order to comfort herself is a minor feat. What’s even more similar between The Dick Van Dyke Show Season 2 Episode 21 and WandaVisionis the plot. The movie that was being watched in the sitcom was about an evil alien called Kolak from the planet Twilo, who takes over people’s bodies and turns them into “Twiloites” by way of alien crystals that are hidden inside walnut shells.
People who are converted into Twiloites only eat walnuts and lose their sense of humor. The legion of Twiloite drones is like Ultron’s army from the movie featuring Wanda’s debut in the MCU, i.e. Avengers: Age Of Ultron. The of something looking like walnut but being something far worse is like referring to Agatha Harkness, who initially acted as Wanda’s friend but later turned out to be a villain. They’re also the parallel of the gem inside the walnut which transforms people who look at it just like the mind stone transformed Wanda when she looked at it for HYDRA’s experiments.
