Number Five had his special Captain America moment in season 2 of The Umbrella Academy. But does that mean The Umbrella Academy had any intention to copy Captain America? Chris Evan played the role of Captain America. And Steve Rogers provided some best dialogues in the franchise. Captain America showcases his willingness, spirit, and determination to become the underdog by his very own catchline “I can do this all day“. He says it all day and every day and throughout the franchise.
Number Five finds out his destination “Kennedy assassination”
A time travel apocalypse happens in the second season of The Umbrella Academy. However, it happens with significantly more Swedish assassins, excessive flatulence, and talking goldfish. Also, the Hargreeves siblings were trapped in the 1960s in the season second of the series. Before another apocalypse hits and demolishes the World, Number Five desperately tries to find his way back home. He was trying to escape but failed numerous times. And later he realized that he had some destination to reach before he could go back to his home. This destination was Kennedy’s assassination. Five could then use his time-crossing briefcase to reach back to his younger but physically older self.
Both the Five versions practically wanted the same thing and therefore it becomes an infallible plan. However, meeting his younger but physically older self with the time-crossing suitcase had its negative effects that include homicidal rage and irrational paranoia. Number Five wasn’t able to trust himself. Referring to Avengers: Endgame, an Old Man Five and Kid Five are busy disputing where the former says, “getting tired yet?”, to this the latter replies, “I can do this all day.“
The line here doesn’t only suggest to Avengers: Endgame but also to Captain America. Cap travels back in time to New York and the heist goes amiss. So, in the end, he fights his younger self.
The Umbrella Academy tries to copy Captain Marvel in the 2nd Season
The Umbrella Academy season 2 reflected the same situation. Since the time travel suitcase didn’t work out as expected, two different characters end up locking in a battle. So, The Umbrella Academy made sure to include in its doppelganger fight sequence the apparent nod to Marvel’s character. This is because of the apparent similarities between the stories of Captain America and Number Five. The Umbrella Academy has added all the Easter eggs from the 1960’s era. The pop culture in The Umbrella Academy has always been their area of focus. However, what is even more appreciating is that the dysfunctional superheroes in the Avengers: Endgame always looks up to and appreciate their Marvel peers.
