Khaleesi in the MCU on Disney Plus
Big news coming out of the Marvel studios as they officially added Emilia Clarke to the cast of the upcoming Disney Plus TV series Secret Invasion.
Emilia Clarke? Sounds familiar
You might remember her from the world-famous HBO series Game of Thrones (2011-19) as Khaleesi – Mother of Dragons, Queen of the Andals and the First Men, Protector of the Seven Kingdoms, The Unburnt, Breaker of Chains, Lady of Dragonstone.
Oh, and by the way, she also played Sarah Connor in Terminator Genisys (2015) After a successful run on Game Of Thrones which earned the global praise of her iconic portrayal of novelist George R.R. Martin’s fictional character Daenerys Targaryen, she has hopped on Marvel’ Secret Invasion TV series on Disney Plus in a yet undisclosed role. So let’s get the potential hypothetical Secret invasion stuff internet is known for.
Although it should be made clear that she is still in final negotiations but more or less, everybody’s agreed on it. Apparently as secretive as the ‘Secret Invasion, Marvel, as always, is trying to make sure that no details regarding Emilia Clarke’s potential character and her role in the series leak out.
Emilia Clarke is a brilliant actress who blooms even further when she has a good material to work with. So far, Marvel has not failed us in the Disney Plus TV series with WandaVision and Falcon And the Winter Soldier, and hence, it will be safe to postulate that Secret Invasion won’t be any less, if not better, than its sister series from the MCU.
Secret Invasion? Who’s invading? Why is it a secret?
Skrulls, the shape-shifting race of extra-terrestrial beings (fancy words for aliens, duh), was already introduced in Captain Marvel (2019). After a Skrull royalty, Princess Veranke is exiled for prophesying the destruction of Skrull homeworld, Galactus destroys the planet of the Skrulls. Thus, they begin a long-term invasion of planet earth by shape-shifting and replacing many of the Marvel heroes and higher officials with imposters, all in secrecy setting the stage for an all-out secret invasion.
Spoiler Alert: In the post-credit scene of WandaVision, Monica Rambeau’s character is seen talking to a female Skrull and saying, “Somebody wants to meet you, up top.” It will be interesting to see which of the Marvel heroes or even secondary characters have been Skrulls in disguise this entire time.
Speculation
Emilia Clarke could be playing Empress turned Princess Veranke. There is also a wild speculation that she could be playing Jessica Drew, aka Soider-Woman but take it with a grain of salt. Emilia Clarke is a huge star to be cast in a one and done role. Given the fact that it’s the MCU, it’s safe to say that she will be sticking around for her role for a long time.
