While having an interview with TVLine, Kripke has said that he has regretted the demise of Lamplighter (Shawn Ashmore), even though the arc of the character was going towards a tragic end. He said, “If I could go back and do it again, knowing that I had Shawn and what he did with that character, I would have kept him alive for longer.” “But that was what that character was arced for from the beginning.”

In The Boys Season 2 Episode 7, “Butcher, Baker, Candlestick Maker”, Lamplighter along with Hughie break into the Vought International so as to free a captive Starlight. Though, Lamplighter ends up immolating himself with his strengths to trip the security system and set the captive free.
Eric Kripke regrets the death of Lamplighter. This act was symbolic for Lamplighter, Kripke has discussed the same, as his powers were the source of the suicidal tendencies. “This power has ended up bringing him so much pain and suffering, and so he uses that same power to end his pain and suffering.”
