Fantastic Beast had a tremendous start but with the sequel, it is repeating DCEU’s biggest mistake.
The Fantastic beast sequel is losing the storyline of the original movie, repeating the biggest mistake DC Extended Universe ever made. The Wizarding World J.K. Rowling took readers back in history and introduced them to the real Harry Potter Saga. It was an effort to expand the history of this universe and immerse readers into the wizarding experience, Rowling wrote the guide book Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them under the pen name of fictitious author Newt Scamander, as he wanted it to be a copy of the notebook shown in Harry Potter and The Sorcerer Stone.
Fantastic Beasts made its theater debut in 2016 with a script by Rowling herself and David Yates handling the direction. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them follows Newt Scamander a wizard and magizoologist who enlists the help of muggle Jacob Kowalski to cage some escaped creature, while a dark force begins to destroy New York City. While it featured the creature mentioned in the Harry Potter saga and kept light on Gellert Grindelwald, a dark wizard who was once close to Albus Dumbledor, the movie tried to introduce new characters and a variety of supernatural creatures. Fantastic Beast received many appreciated and positive critics, leading to a sequel released in 2018, with a lot more packed in the bag.
Fantastic Beast: The Crimes Of Grindelwald continued the journey of Scamander but also spotted some light on Grindelwald’s story for which a young Albus Dumbledor was introduced. Fantastic Beast got every attention because of it’s impressive twisted end, the end showed Credence Barebone Dumbledor’s lost brother Aurelius Dumbledore. This didn’t only make a big change in the Harry Potter canon but it also shifted stories focus to Dumbledore and Grindelwald. This was an effort to make Fantastic Beast’s universe having a connection with Harry Potter but it made the same mistake that DCEU made after Man Of Steel.
What Was DCEU’s Biggest Mistake That Fantastic Beast Repeated?
The DCEU began its journey with Zack Snyder’s Man Of Steel which introduced Henry Cavill as Clark Kent/Superman and set a tone for the rest of its Journey. The DCEU mistake didn’t give other characters a chance to show their real story before going for a big encounter. Right after Man Of Steel’s release, DCEU dropped Batman VS Superman: Dawn Of Justice which introduced Ben Affleck as Bruce Wayne/Batman. This was so the studio could jumpstart the shared universe of DC Comics’ characters, but it was a rushed plan that didn’t work out as intended. Luckily DCEU’s team realized their mistake and are now doing some major changes with their story.
Fantastic Beasts was rushed into a bigger universe and lost its focus, and the saga is now more of a Grindelwald/Dumbledore story than one about Newt Scamander and magical creatures, as was the first one. While it’s not too late for Fantastic Beast to correct the mistake.
