The Great Divide isn’t a very popular episode of Avatar: The Last Airbender. Many fans were of the view that it deviated from the main story. Aang learned about his bending teachers and became an avatar. It was for defeating the Fire Nation and to end the fight. The episode doesn’t have many interesting scenes and facts including the tales told by Gan Jin and Zhang tribes.
The Sacred Orb
What happens to him in Avatar: The Last Airbender is a mystery. Maybe he is not even real. In the stories, he appears with a symbol of Air Nomads on it. He doesn’t seem to live in any of the villages.
Wei Jin and Jin Wei’s Eye Color
The story of Wei Jin and Jin Wei does not hold good if it is told by Zhang or by Gan Jin. Jin Wei has black eyes and hair in Gan Jin’s version. While he has amber eyes and brown hair color in Zhang’s one. Wei Jin has orange and brown eyes in Zhang and Gan Jin’s version respectively.
Canyon Crawler
It is one of the most different crosses between a spider and a crocodile. The tribes are indeed afraid to cross the canyon without any protection. It is all teeth and legs. It is one of the deadliest and scariest characters.
Zhang Tribe
With its rugged look, the tribe makes it clear that they live off the land. Their leader still wears a monkey pelt representing their own nature of not being tamed. Zhang sounds more like the word Mandarin, which means “dirt”.
Gan Jin Tribe
They represent the Mandarin word “clean”. They are neat and clean living a sophisticated life. Their leader carries a sword Jian which is called the ” Gentleman of Weapons”.
Ganjin The Priest
He is the blind priest from the 700’s who crossed the Sea of Japan and established one of the six sects of Nara Buddhism. The Avatar has a lot of roots in Buddhism which is symbolized in the episode itself.
The Thief and the Robbed
There is a conflict between Zhang and Gan Jin’s stories. In the Gan Jin version, the Zhang thief Wei Jin stole their orb. In Zhang’s version, Jin Wei is the one who was accused to steal it.
The Canyon Guide’s Bending
The guide is attacked by the Canyon Crawler because of which he could not guide the tribes through the canyon. He says that he with two broken arms cannot earthbend. This is not true as the starting of the series showed earthbending with only feet. King Bumi could do it with only his head.
