There are diehard fans going crazy on every little joke they make and experiencing all the emotions along with them.
FRIENDS Reunion Review
The show was 2 hours long, but fans surely couldn’t still get enough of them. When Matthew Perry and Matt LeBlanc plunk down on their famous ‘leather lounge chairs’, it just feels like we are back in time to the day it was done the 1st time. But it’s been quite some time since the two of them actually used to share a flat and live opposite Monica and Rachel. But the emotions are still the same among all of the cast members.
Being 51now, Perry’s reaction on seeing Matt (who’s more of a 53-year-old teddy bear now) “Aww, Matty, it’s so good to see you, man”. There’s a special affection and warmth between the two and as soon as they saw a glimpse of an old episode, they couldn’t help relieving their ‘leather lounge moments’. It was definitely emotional and so sweet to watch them again. Now obviously a lot has changed, they are not their 20-year-old selves but grown men with gray hair and a lot more life experience, but one thing that hasn’t changed is their love for one other.
Now streaming on HBO Max and ZEE5 in India, It’s the 1st time ever since the finale in 2004 that the 6 actors (Joey, Chandler, Monica, Rachel, Pheobe and Ross) have gathered together in a room. FRIENDS ran for 10 seasons and had a viewership of around 25 million viewers a week. For the series finale itself which aired in May 2004, almost 52 million fans tuned in and then it became available on Netflix and gained a lot more fans.
For the REUNION, the actors had to go on stage one by one and it was fun because it enabled us to actually get hold off each one’s individual reactions and it gave us chills. Jennifer Aniston on entering asks where the tissues are. “I got chills”. They also sit around a circular table and read on the classic old scripts and it was a delight (particularly when Lisa returns to Pheobe’s voice and gestures). The characters were on almost every magazine cover including “Rolling Stone” and were followed by endless fans screaming, shouting and being frantic about their every moment.
“No one was going through what we were going through, except the other five” says Ross and then added Jennifer who still is a heart throb “It kind of imprinted in our neural pathways…..we are actually FAMILY”. But for around 2 hours almost, REUNION could actually have given us a little more confessions and revelations about the cast THEN & NOW. There’s also a section were a sea of fans from around the world are talking about what FRIENDS meant to them and it’s just lumbering and the segment where ‘notable guests’ walk the runway in fashions from the series could also have been a little better.
But for fans who just wished it to happen for like ‘1 more time’, they couldn’t be happier. There are cameos too, like form Maggie Wheeler with her ‘distinct laugh’ have graced the show with their presence. There are some BTS (Behind The Scenes) too like when Ross, Rachel and Chandler are trying to get a sofa up the stairs and how they were pranking and hugging and laughing at each other while it was shot.
So, if you have waited for like 17 years, you wait over, you are in ONE HELL OF A DELIGHT. It will leave you crying by the end and not just because it’s like a ‘Closure’, more so because you could relate to the characters with someone in your Family or FRIENDS and that’ll bring tears of joy for sure.
