Chandler, Rachel, Ross, Monica, Joey, or Phoebe? These characters are the heart of the show, but how would you rank all six of the show’s best Friends?
When it comes to legendary sitcoms of all time we cannot stop to think of Friends, one of the most popular sitcoms ever made. Friends, an American TV sitcom created by David Crane and Martha Kauffman, aired on NBC from September 22, 1994, to May 6, 2004, lasting ten seasons. Cast starring Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry, and David Schwimmer, the show revolves around six friends in their 20s and 30s who live in Manhattan, New York City.
Many factors caused the success of Friends over the years as it is still watched by fans in this era of streaming. Every sitcom has a different thing that bounds the fans to the show be it the writing or the relatability but one thing that gives a show its power to grow and last long and is its characters. NBC managed to feature some of the most memorable characters in sitcom history – Rachel, Ross, Monica Joey, and Phoebe – with their truly heart-warming moments and transformation throughout the show.
Friends featured six main cast members: Rachel Green (Jennifer Aniston), Monica Geller (Courteney Cox), Phoebe Buffayn(Lisa Kudrow), Joey Tribbiani (Matt Le Blanc), Chandler Bing (Matthew Perry), and Ross Geller (David Schwimmer). This main gang of six is the most iconic of all. No character becomes unlikable or is hated. Each character grows throughout the ten seasons which comes out to be the most enjoyable events in the series. Keeping in mind that everyone has their favorite character and here are all the six-character ranked based on how the character is portrayed to be entertaining and transforming.
JOEY
Joey Tribbiani, portrayed by Matt LeBlanc, is an Italian-American struggling actor who lives in New York with his roommate and best friend, Chandler Bing. When it comes to friendship, Joey is the one who showed the most love to friends one time or the other. He broke up with Ursula for Phoebe, stopped eating meat for a while when Phoebe was pregnant, proposed to Rachel and Phoebe when he thought they were pregnant to keep them safe from the world, gave up his love on Rachel to keep Ross happy. Though he was portrayed as a dumb character out of all, he taught us how a friend should be. Although his character doesn’t change much throughout the show, Joey managed to be consistently funny with his unique personality. Also “Joey doesn’t share food”!
PHOEBE
Phoebe Buffay, portrayed by Lisa Kudrow, the most normal, stable adult of the entire main cast. She feels no embarrassment. She just goes about being herself, unafraid and unashamed. She is fiercely independent, and confidence is her middle name. She proves that you can balance being selfless and selfish without sacrificing one for the other. Her heart is made of gold. She may be flippant and flaky, but she’s so kind to her friends—and family. Remember when she carried triplets for her brother? Triplets! She is a total badass. When thinking of creativity, she is so creative that making up words comes naturally to her like “pla”.
CHANDLER
Chandler Bing, portrayed by Matthew Perry, is considered to be the funniest person in the group, mainly due to his sarcastic behavior. His character is mostly considered to never really evolved throughout Friends. Instead, what we get to see is a person who, while still retaining his light-hearted side, ends up maturing as a character and even gets married in one of the most pivotal moments of the series. Unlike Ross, who at times explained why he was none at fault, Chandler always admitted his mistakes, singlehood, and weirdness.
Despite being the highest-earning member of the group, he was the most down-to-earth person. His character has been designed beautifully and brilliantly played by Perry as well. What about his charm? I bet he owned the heart of every girl back in the 90s. The real reason behind the success story of Monica and Chandler is Chandler’s patience and will to surrender every time Monica overpowered him. And at last, the best thing is watching Chandler dance.
RACHEL
Rachel Green, portrayed by Jennifer Aniston, is first introduced as a spoiled daddy’s girl who left the groom at the altar because her heart did not agree to marry Barry. Eventually, she started from the beginning, as a waitress knowing she has not been made for. She is a bit self-absorbed and ropes her pals into the most insane schemes. This character is the only one that changed since the beginning creating such a huge impact. A spoiled girl was later matured into an independent woman making a name for herself without relying on her father’s money and then to an independent single mother. She decided to raise Emma all alone and asked Ross to be as involved as he would want to.
ROSS
Ross Gellar, portrayed by David Schwimmer, one of the Gellar siblings considered by many to be the most intelligent member of the group and is noted for his goofy but lovable demeanor is a paleontologist and has a Ph.D. from Columbia University. Schwimmer was the first person to be cast on the show. He is certainly one of the funniest characters on the show, but as a person, he is just…kind of a menace? Ross can prove to be especially annoying in this regard, he admittedly does spend a ton of time in the series crying and moaning about his life without really trying anything to alter his behavior and become a better person.
First, he slept with another woman within a few hours of breaking up with Rachel. And throughout the show, whenever they argue about it, he tries to make it seem like it was equally Rachel’s fault as much it was his. When he got super jealous of Rachel when she started working with Mark. The fact that he didn’t trust Rachel to work with another man was disgusting. What is the point of a relationship with no trust? However, in later seasons the character grows to prove that his heart is truly made of gold.
MONICA
Monica Gellar, portrayed by Courteney Cox, is the youngest sister of Ross Gellar. Monica is a fiercely loyal friend, she let Rachel move in with her even though they hadn’t talked in years, loves being the hostess, and will make Thanksgiving special even when you can’t go home. Despite her always-on, competitive energy, she’s an oddly calming presence. Because she is always there. she is sometimes the dominant and bossy character that has grown into an ultimate control freak over the few years.
She planned to spend all of the chandler’s money for their wedding and the worst part was to exclude him from almost everything of the ceremony! She even constantly referred to that night as ‘my special night’ instead of ‘our’ as if chandler were nowhere in her little narcissistic world. Ignoring her overpowering behavior, she’s the mother-like to all making everyone feel at home.
