Future state dark detective – Bruce Wayne finally sees, cloning himself is not the best plan
Future state dark detective, Bruce Wayne has always been the greatest hero the DC universe has created and seen him flourish. Batman is not only a great fighter but also an important person at The Justice League table. But even after his strength and smartness and high-tech intelligence at the end of the day, he is still a human being. He is obviously susceptible to aging and injuries and eventually he is going to die.
Over the years he has fought night and day to bring peace and maintain law and order in Gotham city. But the question is that who will carry this legacy ahead if he perishes. Gotham city is safe under his watch, but they will always need a black-caped hero to look over them.
In Scott Snyder and Sean Murphy’s Detective comics volume 2 #27, Bruce Wayne finally awoke after his Batman: Year One realization in the Batcave. He was then guided by a one-armed assistant talking about the whereabouts and revealing that not only was Batman, but they both are also clones of the original Batman.
Bruce Wayne has built a device to replicate himself and guard the city in his prime health years before the next clone takes over. After informing the new Batman all there is to know, the old Batman offers an option to take it or leave immediately knowing that there is only a window of time before fate dictates the never-ending destiny they have made.
In Future State Dark Detective #3 Bruce is working in the shadows to fight against the Magistrate that is taking over Gotham City. This issue by Mariko Tamaki and Dan Mora shows the old Batman running into Timothy Fox, the new Batman. Future State Dark Detective has this amazing twist where the two Batmans face each other in their common goal to restore peace and justice to Gotham city. They ask each other questions trying to size each other up but Bruce is seen to realize that his legacy doesn’t have to be a clone. ‘Because it is about a symbol and not a person’ is what Bruce Wayne says.
Future State Dark Detective really paints over the series by Scott showing Batman being a little self-obsessed thinking only he is worthy of being the hero Gotham knows.
Batman is not happy with the new replacement. But he sure is accepting fate and the bitter truth that is not all about him but the symbol he has created. It is what Batman represents, and that is justice and the fight for it. As long as the principles and the truth Batman represents stays true Bruce doesn’t have to act aggressively or against these new forces joining the good cause. In a way forgetting about the clones and accepting fate, Bruce has given Tim his blessing to carry on the legacy.
