The Godfather trilogy of Francis Ford Coppola ranks as one of the most outstanding cinematic achievements. However, many feel that the third installment was a little low.
It kicked off in 1972, The Godfather was based on the best selling crime thriller of Mario Puzo having the same name. Puzo wrote the screenplay for Francis, and the film really played a significant role in the career of Al Pacino.
Lavished with acclaim and prizes, The Godfather was followed up in 1974 with the continuation, The Godfather: Part II. It is incredibly rare in cinema for a sequel to compete with the tendency of its predecessor, but for many critics and fans, the second film crowned the first. With tremendous performances from Pacino and Robert DeNiro, The Godfather: Part II set a high criterion of excellence. By 1990, however, Coppola was supposed to end his saga with a 3rd film. The Godfather Coda: The Death Of Michael Corleone does tie up all relaxed and loose ends in the series, though its forerunners were so unbelievably iconic by this time, that the movie had an enormous uphill debate to face.
